Upsold to a large unit when i needed a 5x5. Rep told me it was the same price and then i got wacked with a bill that was almost 150 the second month. Don't miss a payment with these guys, the late fee is hefty and they also have an insurance fee every month (for wha? idk) terrible service and rates. I felt taken advantage of the entire experience.. Then they try to pitch me a discount when i call in to cancel! Lol ... Read more

This place is recently under new management and already a noticeable difference. Thomas, the new manager, is friendly and easy to talk to. He keeps the place clean and organized, attentive to any issues and handles everything in a timely manner. Can definitely tell this isn't his first property. Highly recommend this place even if it's a few extra miles. You won't regret it. In response to the last review of any good reviews "being fabricated"... far from it. Kind of seems like the negative ones are intentional being all of that reviewers pics, except one, are on the outside of the facility. Why? Just because there's a little snow on the sidewalk? Not to insult the reviewers intelligence, the review does a mighty fine job of doing that on its own, but who moves things in and out of a storage unit on foot? Try taking pictures where it matters and use a little common sense, instead of trying to find anything you possibly can to post negatively about the place. Do you or did you even have a unit at this location cause not a single pic from within the gates and not even the slightest of clue as to why you are leaving such review to validate it's accuracy. Hmmmm ... Read more

This place is one of the best places I've ever stored. Lots of management changes but with that being said. Thomas is amazing keeps the property clean and nice and the inside building are clean the units are clean I must say . He has done an amazing job taking over. When it comes to the snow. People need to realize that sometimes things aren't perfect but when blown out of proportion it really can hurt someone. Snow removal is hard and Thomas has done an awesome job at that as well. So thank you Thomas for keeping my things safe and secure . Highly recommend this place also because the cost is best I have ever had ever. Thank you. ... Read more

This Public Storage location doesn't take care of their own property. It isn't registered with the Better Business Bureau??? Curious their only responses are to 5 star reviews??? 5 star reviews seem fabricated! Walked past today and gate was stuck wide open, and you want to leave your property here? Like a welcome sign for the homeless! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Public Storage - 5500 West Hampden Avenue has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
