Someone has been LIVING in my storage unit and public storage has done nothing about it. I requested to cancel my rental and a refund, the representative said they couldn’t and would have to speak with their director first (who they couldn’t give me a phone # for) and call me back. They never called back and have been dodging my phone calls, emails and voicemails. I called the general manager over Charlotte and have not gotten a call back either. ZERO help or concern. No apology. No questions. This could have been a really dangerous situation and they did not care for anyone’s safety. If I could give negative stars I would. Completely UNSAFE. ... Read more

Public Storage is always been super easy to rent. Super easy to move out super easy to do any business with no matter how big or small. I highly recommend leveraging these guys because it’s typically a better price point, better security, and just overall a better customer experience. ... Read more

Awful. DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE. awful customer service. Gave me the wrong keys and did not replace my lock after I paid them to. Got locked out on moving day. Unable to help. Said I had to wait 7-10 business days. Units also are extremely unclean and reek of cigarette smoke. Man two units down is also living out of his unit. ... Read more

A Horrible Experience I rented a 5x10 unit at Public Storage for my clothes and car pillows. A few days later, there was a strong urine smell in front of my unit. Even worse, I saw people living in other units and trash everywhere. It was disgusting. I tried to call customer service, but couldn't get anyone on the phone. Because of the awful conditions and no help, I moved all my stuff out. Avoid this Public Storage. It's unsanitary, unmanaged, and a total disappointment. ... Read more

I was concerned I wasn't a good enough driver to get the rental truck in and out of the unit I rented. The team at the south blvd location were very helpful and went out of there way to find me a unit I felt good about. Amazing service ... Read more

DO NOT RENT WITH PUBLIC STORAGE!! Especially if you require a receipt to expense a transaction with your company. Their customer service is useless and can't even email you a copy. I just spent 20 minutes trying to get a receipt for a charge on my corporate card and their suggested was I "go to the location office to have them print it." It's 2024.... you can't send me a digital receipt. I live in Ohio.... and this unit is in NC. Terrible company. Doesn't even deserve the 1 star. I have 2 units with this company, because they bought the unit I had in Ohio and now I will be cancelling both and will advice my company to not allow any other employees to us any Public Storage. This should not be easy and should not be a big deal, but now you've wasted my time..... ... Read more

After speaking with the representative, Teray, today regarding payment for my unit that is currently a few days overdue, I was met with disappointment. Despite my inquiry about payment and expressing concerns about not receiving responses to my calls, Teray only asked about my payment schedule and refused to provide the access codes to my lockers as per the policy listed on the website. This lack of assistance and adherence to policy was frustrating, especially considering the difficulties I've faced in contacting the facility. Moreover, when I explained that I no longer reside in the area and couldn't visit the location, Teray's attitude was unhelpful and dismissive. Despite my efforts to resolve the situation, I was met with resistance and attitude, leading me to disconnect the call feeling unheard and frustrated ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
