Home improvement is a topic of high interest for many Americans. Many of us dream of living in beautiful, comfortable and well-organized homes, and are interested in information and advice on how to reach this goal. Home improvement TV shows and YouTube channels can be a valuable source of inspiration and help for people who are planning to remodel their homes — particularly since over half of the Americans remodeling their homes are into the DIY trend.

So, whether you’re trying to learn, or you simply are searching for a good dose of entertainment and escapism, here are some of the newest, hottest, or most educational home improvement TV shows and YouTube channels to watch in 2022:

1. Nate and Jeremiah Home Project

This HGTV show, which was recently renewed for a second season, features designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent helping homeowners to transform their interiors. The show focuses on topics such as home organizing, upcycling, and decluttering, so that every house can feel like a comfortable home, perfect for each family. Nate and Jeremiah help families go through renovation projects while also honoring the home and the family’s history — and their belongings.

Wanting to hold onto sentimental items is natural, whether they are family heirlooms, furniture we inherited from parents and grandparents or cherished gifts — and Nate and Jeremiah show us how to do that while still enjoying a comfortable, uncluttered home.

An important aspect that we should consider, however, is whether or not we have the space for everything. The truth is not all homes come with extensive storage space, and that’s where self storage comes in. It will allow you to hold onto the items you love while knowing that less frequently used things are safely kept, even if they are out of eyesight. The service is rather inexpensive, but prices can vary depending on location.

Check out options and self storage prices in some of the country’s largest cities:

2. Flipping 101

A lot of us dream about flipping a fixer upper — and well-known HGTV star Tarek El Moussa can teach you how to avoid the most common mistakes to ensure that your project will be successful. With two seasons of “Flipping 101” already available and the third one launching next year, you can binge on some house flipping content until you find the perfect fixer-upper property to buy. The show follows Tarek El Moussa mentoring novices and teaching them the secrets of house flipping.

3. Help! I Wrecked My House

Going the DIY route can be really rewarding and can save you money, but with one major caveat: that you actually know what you’re doing, and you don’t launch into projects that are above your “pay grade.” The show’s host, Jasmine Roth, is helping homeowners who bit off more than they can chew in terms of DIY home improvement and ended up with issues they just can’t fix on their own. It is a very educational, cautionary show that reveals the not-so-glamorous parts of home improvement and DIY.

4. House-Improvements

In order to avoid situations like the ones featured in the previous show, you could check out the House-Improvements YouTube channel, which has almost 840K subscribers. You’ll find an impressive number of “how to” videos that cover home improvement topics. From small projects such as installing a dimmer switch or adjusting a door hinge to pretty major ones, like building a shed or installing floor tile, the videos are detailed and show you how to get the job done, step by step.

5. First Home Fix

“First Home Fix,” starring Raisa Kuddus, Noah Kuddus and Austin Coleman, focuses on first-time homeowners who don’t have a lot of cash for home improvement. The three hosts help them achieve bold, budget-friendly renovations, and turn the newly purchased houses into veritable homes that reflect their lifestyle and preferences.

6. Flip to a Million

This recently premiered TV show features two very successful professional real estate couples: Jason and EJ Williams from Chicago, and Jon and Dani Wrobel from Long Island, New York. The premise is that each couple has to convert an initial $1,000 investment into a $1 million house sale, all within six months. The show takes place in Dallas, Texas — so give it a try if you’re curious on how you could climb the property ladder in just six months and turn a mere $1,000 into a million dollars!

7. Inside Out

The show, now in its second season, follows Carmine Sabatella and Mike Pyle as they transform the homes of their clients — both inside and out. While Carmine takes care of the interior of the homes, Mike manages everything outside, with spectacular results. The homeowners featured on this show deal with common issues such as optimizing their space, balancing budgets, or reconciling various needs and preferences. It’s a show that can definitely give you some great design ideas for your next home improvement project, be it inside or outside of the house.

8. Ask the Builder

Builder Tim Carter founded this YouTube channel, which now has almost 160K subscribers, in order to help homeowners complete various home improvement projects — or, even if they hire contractors, understand how things should be done correctly. From tutorials to explaining how to use tools, Ask the Builder has plenty of valuable information, so make sure you save it for your next project.

9. Dream Home Makeover

Shea and Syd McGee of Studio McGee are helping families achieve their dream home — or, sometimes, their dream kitchen or bedroom. Each episode features a family with a goal and a budget. The budget and scope of these projects can vary greatly, which means that Shea and Syd must show plenty of creativity and inspiration.

10. Home Repair Tutor

Need some tutoring in removing tiles, or waterproofing your shower wall? Or anything else home improvement related? Then this YouTube channel is right up your alley, with its short and crystal-clear videos that explain exactly how to complete the task at hand.
