Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage at 511 South Fair Oaks Avenue, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Jose was very helpful. I was able to see two units to make sure it was the right size and the access I wanted. He walked me through the whole process of entry, app and payments with ease. He also helped me purchase the right box for storing a tv. Very happy I ended at this location. Thank you. ... Read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Public Storage at the Fair Oaks location in Pasadena. As a new customer, I was denied access to my unit simply because my ID reflected my married name while the agreement listed my prior name. This is a common, legally verifiable situation, yet the staff refused to work with me to resolve it. I escalated the issue to the manager, Alfred, who showed absolutely no empathy or professionalism. There was no apology, no attempt to problem-solve, and no willingness to review legal documentation for my name change. What made this even more frustrating was the lack of follow-through. I was told someone would call me back — that never happened. I continued to follow up myself and was later told a district manager would be contacting me. That call also never came. The entire experience felt dismissive, rigid, and lacking in basic customer care. A simple request for documentation could have resolved everything, but instead I was met with indifference and zero accountability. Very disappointing. ... Read more

They lock up rolling carts so if you happen to come in before or after office hours you’re out of luck. You’ll have to haul all your heavy stuff by hand or bring your own dolly or cart. During office hours you’ll have to check out a cart. If you come in during office hours and the attendant is away from the desk you’ll have to wait to get a key for one of the carts. Very inconvenient if you frequently access your unit as I do. ... Read more

This location does not make public their office hours. During their office hours, they may not be in the office. When asked why they don't at least have a back on five minutes sign or something like that, I was told they used to have one but it was taken away. Restrooms not available during business hours, only office hours. Staff wears headphones while talking with customers. I pay extra for ground floor unit because elevator often broken. Debris left in driveway for days at a time. I would not rent here if not for the hours my unit is available to me which is the only thing about this place that is mid rather than bad. Even then it is not worth the money. Realistically I would be better off adopting an anti-materalistic lifestyle and getting rid of my items than paying this disaster of a location to store them. Please rent literally anywhere else before you rent here. ... Read more

I believe I can summarize my entire feelings about Public Storage (not just this location but the whole corporation) simply by pointing out something revealed by the first image I’ve included. It would appear that Public Storage is offering a nice selection of things you might need when moving or storing some belongings. (Sadly the boxes they offer, while nicely priced, are of terrible quality.) The packing tape they offer is made in Hades and causes a degree of frustration previously unknown in civilized lands — avoid at all costs! The packing tape would probably be easier to manage if you were to purchase the $13 tape gun, but why would you buy that when what you really wanted was this… (see second included image) You will note that this modestly priced, wildly effective, disposable tape dispenser is not available on their convenient wall of items for sale. I guess there’s no profit in giving people what they need. This is simply an example (one of many) of the Public Storage approach to doing business. You might want to look elsewhere. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Public Storage - 511 South Fair Oaks Avenue has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
