Read some helpful reviews of SmartStop Self Storage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I have been a paying customer with SmartStop for nearly four years. During that time, I have never missed a payment or caused a single issue. I upheld my responsibilities as a customer unfortunately, the company did not uphold theirs. This facility advertises “indoor, climate-controlled” storage. That claim is far from reality. When I recently visited my unit, I discovered the ceiling insulation had completely collapsed. This led to significant water intrusion, widespread rodent infestation, and the beginning stages of black mold growth. My belongings were soaked, contaminated, and ultimately destroyed. What should have been a secure, protected environment turned into a hazardous bioenvironment. What is most concerning is that surrounding units were not affected. This was an isolated structural failure — one that should have been identified during routine inspections. The collapsed ceiling was clearly visible. It raises a serious question: are proper inspections even being conducted? Despite my long-standing history as a responsible customer, management has shown no urgency, accountability, or meaningful effort to resolve this situation. Instead of demonstrating care, the response has felt dismissive almost as if the solution is to push the customer out rather than make it right. For a company that promotes safety and convenience, this experience reflects the opposite. Customers pay a premium for climate-controlled indoor storage specifically to avoid water damage, pests, and mold. Failing to provide that basic standard and failing to take responsibility afterward is unacceptable. I hope this review reaches senior leadership. Accountability and customer care should not disappear when a problem arises. Store your belongings elsewhere. I am sure you’ll be better off. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
