We moved in about a year ago amd our rent was raised 3 times since then, we're paying close to $500.00 a month now and for what? I only see 1 person working there when I'm there and he doesnt do much, they're not even open 24/7 and if you're more then a day late with rent they cut off your lock and put on theirs and refuse to let you in till you're paid in full. The place is a scam, go somewhere else. ... Read more

I’ve been to Public Storage on River St in Santa Cruz 4xs in the past 2 weeks. There has not been a cart to move out anytime. I had to move out today, my last day in the unit without a cart. I showed up at 2:15pm. The office was closed. No one was at the property managing it. I received an email notice a few days ago, after I already gave notice of termination, my rent, for a small unit, would be going up by 50% March 1st. Get rid of your stuff people, not worth paying for storage. Very frustrating. I absolutely do not recommend using this facility. ... Read more

Ripped me off $29, tweaker hobo snuck in door behind me. Don't trust these guys. They rented me a storage locker, but it was not the size I had been shown, and the facility was not secure (tweaked out hobo snuck in behind me). I requested a refund, but the guy insisted on retaining a portion just for an "admin fee." Call it what you want, I call it ripping customers off. Not a legit move, definitely do not recommend dealing with these guys. Made a call to the manager, Ryan Gable, but have not heard back about my refund. These guys are a scam, stay away. ... Read more

Dianna was very helpful in Cancelling my reservation. All I needed to do was tell her my name, my locker number, and that I wanted to cancel my reservation. It was that easy. Seeing as the entrance and exit process is fully automated, I find it strange that you are only allowed in during certain hours of the day but overall it was a good experience. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Public Storage - 1001 River Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The storage units offered by Public Storage - 1001 River Street can satisfy all of your storage needs. Different sizes here range from 25 to 300 square feet. You can go for smaller units if you don't have a lot of items to store, while choosing a larger space is recommended in case you need to store a lot of furniture, bigger items or even vehicles.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

Storage units offered by Public Storage - 1001 River Street come at a variety of prices, starting from $64 per month for typically smaller units. However, larger spaces can set you back up to $339 a month.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
