Read some helpful reviews of Otter Self Storage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I tried calling to make payments, but I was told that I couldn’t make a partial one. No one ever mentioned a buyout option something I only found out about after they auctioned off our storage unit. At the time, my family was dealing with a death, and we were going through a lot. All of the things we worked so hard for years are now gone. We have nothing left. What hurts most is that when they asked for a positive review before, I gave it because I truly believed they cared. But now, after what happened, I feel completely let down. This experience has caused so much pain and loss in our lives. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we did. ... Read more

Joshua took my call and handled all my needs with great courtesy and professionalism. . I have had units from Public Storage and for several different reasons I will highly recommend Otter Storage to everyone over Public Storage. Joshua is a real asset to Otter Storage and made my day better. Hopefully he gets bonuses and raises because he deserves them ... Read more

I would like to do a review on Conrad Utah. He is the Custodian at Otter Self Storage in Ocala , Fl. He is extremely helpful , polite and courteous. He offers to help with any needs I may have when I’m at my unit. He always comes over to acknowledge that he is on duty on the premises and asks if I need any assistance. It is refreshing to know that there is someone there for protection.it is such a large facility for a woman to be alone working in her unit. I always feel safer and more secure knowing that Mr. Utah is on the premises at the same time that I am. Julia Rutter ... Read more

Do not recommend Otter storage at all. Between the non existent security, break ins, sink hole (sink hole appeared around 6/4/2023) insects in the lockers, broken entrance gate .. why would anyone even consider renting a locker here???? The positive reviews on this page were earned by the PREVIOUS company (Pardee) .. NOT Otter storage .. Otter very recently bought the company. We needed a storage locker .. we were assigned one that had big slabs of granite left in it right by the front roll up door. Clearly, whoever opened the locker saw it but just left it. We can’t use all of the locker as a result .. but they charge full price. No one is on the property if you have questions. When you call them for help (the gate seems to malfunction a lot) they are in another state and could not possibly care less and are rude. Do NOT use this company. DO NOT RECOMMEND. ?? Edited to add the below comment in reply to response from owner. Otter self storage .. one solution you offered was to move to another locker. We rented a forklift to move products into the locker. We were there at 0600EST and had a very limited amount of time with the rental equipment .. your phones were not open yet and no one is at the property. We are not paying to rent a forklift a 2nd time due to your incompetence… you refused to pay for the rental. Your next solution was for us to open the locker so you could remove the granite (and you admitted you had no way to move it) but we do not live in FL and will not be back to the state for months. You said you would not open the locker without us present. Then you said we should have called you when we saw the granite was in the locker RIGHT BY THE DOOR WHERE IT COULD NOT BE MISSED BY YOUR EMPLOYEE WHO OPENED THE LOCKER. If you would have been answering your phones at 0600EST in the morning we would have called but you are closed at that hour so that was not possible either. So please provide me what “solution” you offered me that was not going to cost me more $ in rental equipment or traveling back to FL? The granite was left in the locker due to the straight up fact that whoever opened the locker, your employee, was too lazy to move the granite … so now we are stuck with it. We have 5 lockers rented with you…. You don’t care about your customers you only care about getting paid. I wish I could give you less than one star but I have to give you one star to leave a comment. So the bottom line is THE GRANITE BEING LEFT IN THE LOCKER WAS NOT AN “OVERSIGHT” IT WAS NOT DEALT WITH BY YOUR EMPLOYEE. You can’t miss the two slabs sitting right by the door. Otter’s lockers are full of bugs .. we emptied our last 3 lockers and they had a variety of bugs (ants and roaches). We had to have everything sprayed by pest control at our home. Also, the gate does not work .. just drive right up and the gate opens and no one is on sight for security. And finally.. a sink hole opened up in the retention pond near the lockers. Hope it doesn’t continue to grow and take lockers with items people have stored in them. Otter is a TERRIBLE all the way around. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At Otter Self Storage - 3065 NW Blitchton Road, available security amenities may include Security Camera, Gate, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

    • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
    • Perishable food
    • Live plants or animals
    • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables
