Best place in Florida for boat work. 100% worth the trip to get here. The management is on point. The staff is fantastic, the facilities are super clean, and the local crowd is always ready to help with great knowledge; both contractors and boat owners. Highly recommend place. ... Read more

I was lucky enough to buy my boat while it was stored at Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage. The staff is very accommodating and proficient moving and getting the boat in and out of the water. I spent a few months getting my boat ready for sailing, they kept the bathrooms, yard, and dock in top notch condition and clean. I highly recommend them for any short or long term storage or for a quick DIY project. ... Read more

Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage is a great place to store your boat, short term or long term. They allow you or a subcontractor to work on the boat and they provide the boat owner with a key to the yard for after hours access. The staff is phenomenal, very friendly and always willing to help. I can't say enough good things about them. ... Read more

Location is ok but you do have to go through a long ride through a canal system to get there. Watch your draft, 6’ can be challenging depending on time of year. Navionics is only map that has bathymetry for this area. It is technically inland some so rather protected and you can smell the beach from here when winds are from the west. It is a bit isolated regarding food and parts. There is an Ace Hardware on Placida Rd that has many of the ss fasteners you may need and Gulf Coast Hardware a bit further. Home Depot can help though you may need the Venice stores. West Marine, Marine Trading Post, Mariners trading post are in Port Charlotte some 15 miles away but it can take almost an hour to go depending on traffic. We have had to travel to Tampa, Fort Meyers, Sarasota for parts. The highway is 30 minutes away. The location is remote but relatively quiet. Yard has limerock base, is fully fenced, and secure. Most of staff is great though beware the one who keeps asking to show your their house (huh???). Managers, there are 2, are shady folk. One seems to run the show with an iron fist and ego to match and is aggressive and bullying and intimidating. The other seems to take the other’s orders and does the dirty work. If there are issues, they will either ask nicely or be ugly. We were constantly pushed to leave to the point they kept scheduling our launch when we were not water tight, no electrical systems running, motor not running. They say we stayed “too long, it’s in the contract”. No, no it isn’t. It was only at the 11th hour and 58th second did they finally say we can keep the boat there but need to secure accommodations offsite and that was ONLY after I asked point blank. I was threatened a few times talking with them yet with my husband they were cordial and polite. As people, they seem very shady making rules up to suit a situation and ego. Beware, they allow the emptying of holding tanks onto the rocks (boat next to ours did regularly to point of staining rocks), no safety equipment on the crane (no fall arresters or harness), pet excrement on grounds, no safeguards near the well. OSHA can make their annual budget there. Folks like it as it is one of the few DIY yards in the area though you are better off further north from Sarasota and up due to proximity of supply houses. Again we were forced out before being done and we just got the engine back online the day before launch. When asking staff why, no one had answers. If company policy was violated, someone would have said as much. There are other yards next door better suited. I cannot recommend this yard based on our experience. Other cruisers return regularly but they generally come in for storage or a quick haul out. If you are within your first year of cruising, find another yard. You will get no help here. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage - 13101 Appleton Blvd has to offer. These amenities include 24 hour access, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Online Payment and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
