I had automatic payments paying for my storage. I was busy with life and working and one day I realized the money wasn't coming out anymore. Needless to say they stopped taking automatic payments and all of my stuff was gone. Everything that was so important! All my kids memories from childhood, Christmas decorations, my grandmother's dresser with all of her things in it etc... ... Read more

I was given good care by the on-site person in charge of A-1 Mini Storage in Freeport, IL. I think her name is Ellie. I contacted her and asked if she would check on my storage unit because it is not easy for me to go to the storage area due to some limitations of mine. She walked way back to my unit and checked on it, and reported back to me, which was very helpful. Her help eased my mind. And, she was very nice and gracious to me. In this era of people doing just their minimal job, this worker understands how to go the extra mile for customers. I will continue with storing my items with this organization because of the good care I received. Regards, Tom S. ... Read more

Wish I could give no stars....Obtained a storage unit with A1mini storage on 6/16/16 and have paid the rent on time every time. My biggest complain is they aren't good at keeping records! They are trying to claim I owe them $75 for not paying July rentals that I obtain the unit in May. I am OCD about paying my bills on time so I know damn well I didn't miss a payment. Do NOT use this storage unit facility! They are terrible with keeping track of who has paid and who hasn't! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At A-1 Mini Storage - 1635 South Galena Avenue, available security amenities may include Onsite Manager, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

  • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
  • Perishable food
  • Live plants or animals
  • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables

Always check with the facility at 1635 South Galena Avenue for specific restrictions and recommendations.
