DANGEROUS and NEGLIGENT - ICE RINK MASQUERADING AS PUBLIC STORAGE! - Unresponsive Management! SHAME ON PUBLIC STORAGE! I am absolutely appalled by the dangerous conditions at the Gary Lane, Geneva IL location. We arrived on February 17th to unload one of our THREE storage units, only to be met with a sheet of ICE covering the ENTIRE facility. It hadn't snowed in over 12 hours, yet they completely neglected to salt or take any preventative measures. A thin layer of snow concealed the treacherous ice, making it incredibly hazardous. From the entrance off Gary Lane to the very back of the property, it was a skating rink. This is completely unacceptable! We pay for storage, not a potential slip-and-fall lawsuit waiting to happen. Unresponsive management and a poorly maintained property are an understatement. This level of negligence is beyond comprehension. Furthermore, we were unable to complete our business that day. The machinery we were using to move items had absolutely no traction on the ice, making it impossible to safely load everything we needed into our truck. We wasted HOURS due to their negligence! To add insult to injury, we left TWO messages for management and spoke to THREE different customer service representatives, none of whom provided any meaningful assistance. We even spoke to a manager from a nearby Public Storage facility (or State St), who, feeling incredibly sorry for our situation, came over with salt to try and help. While her gesture was appreciated, the sheer amount of ice made it ineffective. This highlights the complete failure of the on-site management to address this dangerous situation. We had no choice but to buy shovels and our own salt from a local Home Depot and shovel and salt ourselves to even access the unit safely. We are utterly disgusted and will plan to remove our belongings from all three units as soon as possible. DO NOT trust Public Storage with your valuable possessions or your safety. This is a disgrace! ... Read more

The company changed and now the rates continually keep climbing. I started near ~$280 and now the rates have increased to $412. It's unfortunate because the staff, location, and ease of use of the storage is great, but it shouldn't cost this much for a space. If that was the case I would have stayed in the house I lived in because now the cost equate the same. Such a bummer! ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
