Don't waste your money on a "climate-controlled" unit. They do not monitor the HVAC system. It went out last summer and I had to throw away 90% of my belongings due to mold and mildew. Worst storage facility EVER. ... Read more

Storage rentals of America was wonderful. We moved from Florida and didn't have any problem with them finding a storage big enough for us and in all the commotion we forgot to put a lock on. Linda called and said she would take care of that for us and secured our stuff properly. Easy access in and out to our belongings and beautifully clean facility. Thank you so much and we would use you again. Special thanks to Linda for securing all of our possessions. I would recommend them and use them again! ... Read more

These storage units.. you might as well call it a small apartment for what you pay. I was paying for a 10 X 10 unit inside, it was around $140.. get a notice they are raising the price $50 dollars.. Now it’s right around $190-200.. Hilarious I get it’s a month to month lease.. but raising the price almost a third of the price… that’s called Greed. There largest unit I believe is a 10X30, and your paying the price of a studio apartment. They say it’s controlled, called 3-4 times over the wunter.. thermostat was in the 30s heat was never on… climate control my butt.. just pocketing the extra money and saving on the electric bill. My biggest gripe, and how I know the policies in place are put in by someone of greed and laziness. Is planning to move my stuff out, got a little busy so didn’t make it by the 5th.. so they put a lock on it. No big deal right.. so I call and say, Hey, I get it, I had planned to get my stuff out by the weekend, but family issues came up no problem. Can I go ahead and pay for two weeks till the 14th and I should be out before then or can I go ahead and pay for the whole month and if I’m out by the 14th, just give you guys a call so I can get refunded the other 2 weeks of the month that I wasn’t there……… ANSWER NOPE, COMPANY POLICY, NO REFUNDS, NO EXCEPTIONS.. Like what.. I’m not gonna be there, my stuffs gonna be gone, and I’m paying you for the time I’m there.. what do you mean? I’ll tell you what it means.. THIS COMPANY IS NOTHING BUT A SCAM, it’s just storage units.. LIKE ITS JUST STORAGES, you pay for maintenance, a few full time people, that 10 storage units pay the salary…that’s it.. with 1 or 2 workers there.. if ever, raising rent a third.. keeping money longer then when someone’s there. When you raise the price a quarter or a third.. people start to wonder, dang… these are just storage units, and the naysayers would say do it yourself instead of complaining. I’m saying people have it hard enough.. the raise in price I. Itself is ABSURD! I know exactly what kind of people own these.. and it’s it someone you DONT want taking your money. Plenty of other storages around for half the price on the same unit. HALF THE PRICE- oh and I told them I would do this so they wouldn’t be in the dark..didn’t seem to care.. and this is the 2nd review I’ve ever done on Google.. if that tells you anything ... Warning to all storage seekers! After storing my belongings in a climate-controlled unit, I was shocked to find them covered in mold and mildew. The property manager confessed that the HVAC system had malfunctioned, leaving me with ruined items. I spoke with the district manager several times to rectify the issue, and it was very challenging to get any sort of resolution. Finally, when I found the regional manager’s information on my own (because that’s the only way I could retrieve it), I was then contacted by the district manager again to notify me that they would give me a refund for two months. While I appreciate the compensation of $784, it will still not cover the entire cost of my losses. They claim to not be held liable for the mechanical failure of heating/cooling systems so why do we pay higher rent for this service? The failure to promptly notify tenants of HVAC issues represents severe oversight and a horrible disservice on their part as well. My experience serves as a cautionary tale - if you value your possessions, seek storage services elsewhere. ... Read more

DO NOT store anything in the “climate controlled” units. The units are supposed to be 55-80 degrees according to their website and own documentation, but have regularly been well over 80 degrees (readings taken from their own thermostat inside the units). They have acknowledged this and the multiple issues renters have had (mold, mildew, melted/warped belongings) and do not care. They will tell you that you moved in when it was raining or that mold and mildew are outside their renter policy. If you value your belongings, take your business anywhere else. ... Read more

Place is a joke. Called toll free number and they hung up on us five times. They contacted the one in Shelbyville who said they would be there until 5:30. We drove 20 miles and there is a sign saying they will return tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and it was 2:00 in the afternoon. They were supposed to be open until 5:30. Had problems with them in the past. Nobody there to run the place. guess they get paid to do absolutely nothing. The person who works there should be fired. ... Read more

When they put locks on your unit that were supposed to be removed more than five days ago and you drive an hour and a half to open your storage unit only to find out the red lock has not been removed. And they are nowhere to be found it closed on a week day. Either this is negligent and Pure laziness, or it’s a computer error. But I highly doubt the an error though. No information on your account to tell you before you come all that way no information given from the corporate number. It’s just you and the silly property managers. No one else can help. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere at the end of this cycle. This is not a one off thing this is happened multiple times with different reasons such as gate code error not working and more. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

The facility at 2450 East Michigan Road offers 24/7 access, allowing you to visit your unit at your convenience.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At Storage Rentals of America - 2450 East Michigan Road, available security amenities may include Security Camera, Gate, Onsite Manager, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

    • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
    • Perishable food
    • Live plants or animals
    • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables

Always check with the facility at 2450 East Michigan Road for specific restrictions and recommendations.
