Terrible Storage Unit. Since using this storage unit my unit was broken into and vandalized. Nothing was done to help with this they also didn't notice it was broken into until a couple days after. How they did not have security footage of this blows my mind. 4 units were broken into in the row my unit is in. I've been double charged one month and they blamed it on computer problems. I was trying to move into a new house and had a moving truck with me twice on the weekend and the gate wouldn't open "due to computer problems" again. The emergency help line was no help and still couldn't get into the unit that I pay for to have access to 24/7. The amount of mice poop I had to clean up when I moved out completely this past weekend is disgusting. I had to throw away a couch and a chair because it was covered in mice poop. so much for pest control.... Keep in mind there was no food kept in this storage unit to entice the animals. Today I log in to my bank account to see that they charged me AGAIN even though I was promised I was taken off of autopay and I completely moved out of my unit therefore should not have even been charged a penny. I called to ask for a refund and to see why I was charged after being promised I wouldn't and low and behold it was because of "computer problems" once again. Step it up Southern Maine Storage I'm absolutely disgusted and disappointed. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.
