Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

As someone who was a customer for five years, I wholeheartedly suggest going to another storage facility/business if you have to use a storage service. It will be extremely difficult to access anyone or get any real assistance unless you call three properties. They make it hard for you to contact them because the mission is for you to not be able to contact them. They will increase your rent every six months, almost $60 - $80 each time. And once you’ve been there long enough, you will still get a rental increase, but it will probably be $7-$10, which is just greed at that point. I’ve had several incidents happen at this facility, but because no one is usually there, you will not receive the proper help. They will also make mistakes, like sending emails stating your unit may have been accessed, which can make a customer feel uneasy about holding their property with them. Once you’ve been there long enough, you will notice the generated pattern amongst the staff. No one is there to help or consider whatever issues you’re having, so just consider going to a smaller chain storage service. I would never suggest Public Storage to anyone considering the service. ... Read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I reserved a storage unit over the phone, paid upfront, and then realized I didn’t need the unit. I called to cancel before ever checking in or using it, and the agent told me “no problem” and that a refund would be issued in a few days. Days went by with no refund. When I followed up, suddenly the story changed — they said I “didn’t qualify” for a refund because I had already paid. That makes no sense. If a business takes money but never provides the service, a refund is the only fair and professional response. Instead, this place chose to keep my money for nothing. This is dishonest, shady business practice and I’ll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If you value your money and don’t want to get the runaround, look elsewhere. ... Read more

I had an issue paying online. when I got to the location the payment kiosk wasn’t working correctly. Jen stepped in and assisted and went ahead and took my cash payment and assisted with contacting someone To let them know my payment was in. I appreciate her I was already pressed for time and she saw a need and provided the service. THANKS Jen ... Read more

Public Storage goes up on the rent every few months. After being there for 3 months they went up on the storage rent $56 and a few months later another $38. I went from paying $169 to $225 now they want me to pay $263. That ridiculous. I spoke with customer service and they told me that there was nothing they could do. Definitely do your research before you decide to move your stuff into Public Storage. ... Read more

I definitely do not recommend. The price went up every few months so we finally left. I was also told by customer service that the last month would be prorated, and by the property manager that she would refund the lock I just bought when I brought it back in. Neither of those things happened and I can’t get the property manager to call me back to discuss. Figures. They’re a corporate company that does not care about you at all. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
