DO NOT STORE YOUR ITEMS HERE! I stored items in my assigned unit for a little over one year. I had to move overseas and during that time, I thought my items would be safe and secure. With the keypad entry into the HVAC building and another lock on my unit, I did not expect my unit to be broken into. I believe this was an inside job. When I returned to get my items and move out of it, the lock was hanging on the door, looking like it was still secure. When I touched it to unlock it, it fell off onto the floor. Several thousand dollars of my tools and items were stolen and damaged. It is unbelievable that the camera system and supposed security didn’t prevent this. Even routine checking of padlocks on people’s units would have caught this quickly by management. Manager called, seemed more concerned about my reviews than resolving this issue and reviewing camera footage. She said she would investigate but months went by with no response or resolution. It was a phony amd disingenuous response. She did say this was a high crime area. I was unaware of that. Do not put any valuables at this location or you will run the risk of having the same experience I did. No resolution from management extremely disappointing and my personal items are lost forever. ... Read more

Reservation won’t work online, after hours of trying, calling in still takes over an hour of your time. Misleading Google add claiming units price start at $19… cheapest unit is $59 They really try to force you into buying an insurance, so you better have your home insurance declaration page handy. After that, you got spammed with multiple daily emails and text messages! The Waynesville nc facility is great. My review would be 5 stars without all the booking trouble and spams. ... Read more

Amazing customer service thanks to Ram! I really felt welcomed and was treated greatly and her excellent answers towards the questions and concerns I had. I really enjoyed talking to her due to being my first time renting a storage unit so I didn’t know what I was going to expect. Will definitely recommend to rent these units, besides they are real clean ???? ... Read more

Sam helped me through my paperwork with patience and professionalism. I look forward to working with Richland Creek and will move into my unit shortly. I'll update my review in a few months when I'll be able to evaluate whether the unit and management lived up to the high expectations Sam has just set. ETA: Cathrina helped transfer me to another unit when the one I'd rented had a stuck slide lever. The transfer was seamless and done when I was on site. She was very helpful! ... Read more

Horrible customer service. Our lock was cut and no one said anything and no cameras were around even though it was marked there were cameras and was told we needed to buy our own lock and we needed to call the police. We were spoken to very rudely and told there was nothing they could do about the whole month of pay we weren't using because we did not feel safe keeping our things there. 10/10 would not recommend. ... I cannot recommend this facility. I originally rented a covered RV storage spot here when the business was independently owned and didn't have any problems. There was always someone on-site, and I never had issues accessing my vehicle. Since it was taken over by Copper, there were at least 3 occasions where the code for the lock on the gate had changed and I was not notified. So when I arrived at the unit, I had to call and give them all my information over the phone (since the office is now unattended) in order to be given the updated code to gain access. They do have a web portal to check codes for locks, but it never worked for me. The worst occurrence was when I arrived and found the lock to be jammed and could not access my vehicle at all. I called to report this and it took them over 2 days to get someone on-site to replace the lock! To their credit, they did call me this time to apologize and provide the updated code, but I was still without access to the vehicle that I was paying to store there, and was offered no reimbursement. If they had an on-site attendant or maintenance person present, I feel this could have been addressed much faster. The final straw was when I got a call from their call center to notify me that there had been a break-in at the facility where someone cut the fence to the storage area. I was told to check my vehicle and file a police report myself if anything was missing or damaged. While I can't blame them for the break-in, I feel that yet again the lack of having people on-site as a deterrence and no clearly visible video surveillance made this an easy target. I can't speak to the indoor storage units here, but I would look elsewhere for vehicle/RV storage options. ... Read more

DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE UNIT! My unit was broken into TWICE! Everything was destroyed and peed on. Only after the second time my storage unit was broken into they decided to “escalate” it to management. You cannot even speak to higher ups, you speak to someone from another country. There is no one on site and they do not change the code frequently to protect your belongings after people move out. The storage unit is also not well maintained, it is dirty inside the climate controlled units. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

    • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
    • Perishable food
    • Live plants or animals
    • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables

Always check with the facility at 187 West Marshall Street for specific restrictions and recommendations.
