Read some helpful reviews of Johns Island Self Storage-Boat Storage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I really enjoyed my interactions with Johns Island Self-Storage. I kept my camper at their Maybank storage location while I cleaned it up and prepped it for sale. Rates were competitive and when I cancelled my lease mid-month I was expecting to have to pay the following month, but I was surprised to be told I was getting a refund for the portion of the unused month. staff and facilities were great. ... If I could give zero stars I would. I am reluctantly storing my RV at their Maybank Highway location until I can find an alternative. I am beyond disappointed. We are supposedly paying for "secure storage". The gate has been stuck open for a month now with no resolution in sight. It took some effort, but after finally speaking with a manager, the following was shared with me: 1. they have no idea when the gate will be fixed, 2. vandalism/theft can happen even when the gate is closed, 3. they were unwilling to do anything to help keep my business. Terrible customer service. I am now fearful that if there ever were any theft or vandalism to my property in their storage facility, the management would just throw their hands up and do nothing. ... If I could of given ZERO STARS I WOULD HAVE!! Had this unit for almost 2 yrs just put $200 on it 3 weeks ago and called last weekend to let them know I’ll be paying it there was a problem with my bank card and I had to settle it and wait for a new card and the girl said she would note my account. Spoke to them all the time and was told as long as there’s communication I’m fine. Well last Saturday 1 day after I called they sold my unit of my Mom and Grandmothers and kids photos and things. No letter all I received was a bill by email with how much I owed. My heart is broken! I followed every rule and now it’s like my kids never existed without thought or looking into it you sold my unit. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
