Everything was wonderful, I got a climate controlled unit and everything was always kept clean, good temperature and humidity. They were always extremely helpful. One time I lost my key, needed to give access to my dad while about to go on vacation the next day and I was able to get it all taken care off within twenty minutes and without ever having to go to the building. Was able to arrange someone else to pick up the keys and everything. I also think it's very fairly priced. ... Read more

Hey yall, just wanted to let you know Solid Ground Storage is the best storage facility I've ever used, by far. It's clean, well attended and the folks that own it are great people who care about their customers. I've been using their storage for about 5 years and never had an issue, even when I should have, only because I caused an issue and it was totally my own doing they helped me and that's something you don't see often in a business these days. I love living in Elgin and they are truthfully one of the reasons because they've made my life easier by being kind to me. Even when I inadvertantly caused a problem for them, they were there for me. Thanks Amy!!!! ... Read more

I contracted 4 climate controlled storerooms and the people who worked there supported me through each move, coming and going. They were sensitive to my transitional needs. The facility was clean--- no bugs, varmints, or trash-- easily accessible by using the codes, contents easily manipulated on sturdy carts, units were very secure and the general security of the facility was obvious. It deserves even more than 5 stars! Beverly Blackman ... Read more

I moved here the end of December 2018 and needed a place to store my items until my storage building was delivered to my property. I chose Solid Ground Storage because it looked clean from the outside. This was a great choice. During my time there I always felt safe and secure no matter what time I went to the storage unit. There is plenty of lighting and they have the larger flat dollys for use inside the halls. They also have truck that is available for use if you need to move larger items. The unit was clean and the inside of the halls are clean. They have several different sizes. The best part is it is climate controlled. During the time I was there I never saw any bugs and never felt insecure about my property. Amy who is the Manager is very nice and keeps the grounds looking great. I highly recommend this place if you need a good storage unit. If I ever had to use another one I will definitely come back. ... Read more

I've rented two units from Solid Ground and it was a good experience. I had one unit in their new facility where the office is and had no complaints. My other unit was in the older facility out by the sonic and it was good to. the only issue was that they were resurfacing the driveways taking out the gravel and putting in concrete. when they did this the stuff I had in the unit got extremely dirty. Not sure there is anything they could have done to stop this from happening, in fact, paving all the ground around the units will ultimately lead to a cleaner environment inside the units. They did a good job of making accommodations for renters and letting us know when the units would and would not be accessible. They also kept us informed as work progressed. They also called me one day to let me know that I had accidentally locked my unit open. IE i had closed the door, but failed to slide the bolt before I locked it. I chalk that one up to being tired when I was getting some items out of the unit. The call was just a couple of days after I did the work so I know they keep a close eye on things. It isn't easy to spot whether the latch is closed or not. Also, when I was first renting the unit. I was arriving right at the close of business with a full truck load of things that needed to be stored. I called them on the phone to make sure they were going to 'stick around' a few minutes after close to help me get set up. not only were they happy to do this, but she took my info over the phone and had the contracts ready when i got there. Great customer service at the start, and throughout the rental period! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

  • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
  • Perishable food
  • Live plants or animals
  • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables

Always check with the facility at 101 South Main Street for specific restrictions and recommendations.
