Onsite security is great for peace of mind, and the resident managers are happy to answer any questions you may have. Keep in mind that the office is not open every Wednesday, but your storage is still accessible. Online payments or automatic payments are great options to keep from getting behind, but they are also happy to accept cash or a check in person and chat with you for a little bit as long as they aren't busy. Plus, if you stop in at the right time, the newest member (their daughter) of the blue and gray team will be there to greet you! ... Read more

I cleaned out my storage unit on 8/31. I called and informed the woman in the office that I had cleaned out my unit and asked if I would be charged for September. She informed me they check the units daily and that when they see the units are empty they no longer charge for the unit. On 9-6 I logged into my bank account and see a charge from Blue and Gray for $80. I wasn't angry at this point. I assumed it was just an error. So I called to inquire on how to go about getting my money refunded. This is where the madness begins. The woman gave me an email address to send a refund request to. I attempted to send the email and it was returned to me stating the email did not exist. I called her back and she told me to try again. I did and got the same result. So I called again and this time a gentleman named Bryan answered. He yelled into the phone and then hung up in my face. This happened three times in a row. So I hopped in my car and drove over to the facility. I saw Bryan run upstairs when I pulled in front of the building. I walked in and was told they did not have to give me a refund. I still have not gotten anywhere with this process but I do intend to take the necessary steps in order to get my money refunded. I was treated poorly today after having this unit for 4 years. I never missed a payment and up until today never had a problem with the staff. This is not how you treat people. To have a man yell into my ear and then slam the phone down is down right outrageous. Then to hide upstairs when I showed up was just a cowardly act. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At Blue-Gray Self Storage - 6940 Walmsley Blvd, available security amenities may include Security Camera, Gate, Onsite Manager, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

  • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
  • Perishable food
  • Live plants or animals
  • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables
