Read some helpful reviews of Tacoma Self Storage at 2602 Holgate Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Needed a storage unit for nearby college students' stuff for the summer and Tacoma Self Storage was ideal. Derrick was wonderful to work with from the initial phone call to once the unit was cleared out. Easy access, carts available, clean, and well lit. Students stored and removed their items with no issues. Will definitely use again (assuming great review doesn't cause them to sell out) ;-) ... Read more

Just got a storage unit here and the manager Derrick was nice and helpful. The prices are reasonable and my unit is perfect for my needs. I was dreading getting a storage, unnecessarily so cause I feel at ease at Tacoma Self Storage. ... Read more

Very clean, temperature controlled indoor facility. Good lighting, plenty of carts in good condition, close-in parking and excellent security. Restroom in front office only accessible when business office is open. Access gates are a bit narrow - OK for most vehicles except wide vans and trucks. Helpful office staff. ... Read more

I rented a unit here for 8 years, and clearly they are under new (probably corporate) management, and as such, their new business model is to lure you in with a low rate and then quickly jack up the rate in rapid succession, hoping that it will be too inconvenient for you to move all your stuff to another facility. Despite being a loyal customer for the aforementioned 8 years, they effectively doubled my rate in less than two years (and they also eliminated an annual discount). The irony is that one employee admitted they could give me twice as much space for less than one-third of my current price if I moved into a larger unit. But then, of course, I knew the jacking up of rates would continue all over again, even higher than before. This was their "solution." I think they are unethical, and you will regret patronizing them. My advice -- as of April 2025 -- is to stay far, far away. ... Read more

I was an idiot and showed up 10 mins before they closed but they still went above and beyond helping me out; they answered all my questions and let me see a potential unit, and helped get me signed up. Great customer service! ... Read more

I have been renting a unit from Tacoma Self Storage for the last almost 10 years. I appreciate the previous management was very approachable and it definitely seemed like a family ran business. With the new management. I appreciate the upgrades to technology so I'm able to text questions and get answers and deal with anything that arises. There has been a couple mistakes but they are very gracious and they fix their mistake quickly and very pleasant to work with. Now being that I've been here for almost 10 years, the prices have increased quite a bit but I guess that's an inflation? I wouldn't want the new management to not honor the 'Tacoma Elf Storage' during the holidays. It's kind of a Tacoma staple. ... Read more

Got started with my unit in February 2025 with the cheapest rate that I could find and a nice deal for my first two months. Things were clearly explained to me, the guy at the front helped me get set up with everything I needed, and the unit was clean when I opened it up to get my stuff stored. Had a minor issue with my passcode not working for the gate for entering/exiting but the guy at the front helped out every time without hesitation. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Tacoma Self Storage - 2602 Holgate Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
