Yamaha motor needed tuneup, running rough early in season. Took it to Retzlaff close in Oconomowoc, we picked it up within 2 weeks. Kathy CS rep and Scott technician were friendly, welcoming, efficient and explained what was replaced and why. They ran a test run on Fowler Lake to confirm motor was running smooth. I love using local businesses. ... Read more

I had an audible alarm on my boat but all alarm leds were normal. I figured i better be safe thatn sorry and reached out to retzlaff as they were the closest certified honda dealer. I explained to the owner the symptoms to the best of my ability. They told me they would be able to get to it in a week. about a week and a half later i decided to call and check progress. apparently they had started the troubleshooting process and had to stop because they had questions which again i answered to the best of my ability. about a half week later i got a call saying it was complete and that the cooling intake vents were clogged $200 some dollars. i picked up the boat happy it was fixed and couldnt get on water for about 3 weeks, busy. Finally i was able to get on water and within minutes the alarm was going off. frustrated and unsure of what to do we got off lake and went home. My wife was googling the symptoms and we found that the honda 4 stroke outboard has a fuel water separator with a float alarm. we watched the video on how to disasemble, empty, reassemble, and boom problem solved. My complaint isnt with the time i didnt have the boat almost 3 weeks. its the fact I paid 200.00 and the problem wasnt solved. I would liike to believe that when you take a boat in for service that there would be some type of minimum check list a mechanic especiaily a certifed mechanic would preform to rule out the issue and or even find others. The fact I waited 3 weeks for the expert to wash out my intakes charge me $200.00 and not solve the problem is what chaps my ass. My wife and i are not mechanics but also not inept. The fact we were able to fix the problem via a youtube speaks volume to the fact that they are not qualified to repair a cardboard box. ... Read more

I used them to pick up/store/ launch my boat. During the pick-up/storage process they were very responsive & friendly; although they did try to sell me on upgrades the whole time. Then came the nightmare of trying to get my boat launch, i probably spent a month trying to get a hold of someone to get my boat launched. Everytime i would get dead air and they stated they didn't have voice mail. When I finally got a hold of the customer service they stated to send an email as the response time will be better. Sent emails and never got a response. End of the date my boat was launched late, I asked to speak to the owner and management about my experience and never got a call back. I try to support local, but this was such a irritating and frustrating I cannot use them again. ... Read more

No follow-up with customers. Left waiting for months for work to be completed a long time ago. Missed several “times” they stated they would be out. Can’t follow basic instructions. Have to call repetitively to request the same thing before someone cares enough to handle it. Poor Customer Service. No One Answers the phone. Its almost like reminding your kid to tie their shoes over and over again. Service was for my parents in Oconomowoc, and finally I had to get handled for them from Scottsdale, Arizona! Our family has been customers for a while, and we will never use them again! ... Read more

I purchased a pontoon boat from Retzlaff Marine and It needed a new cover. They had a cover made which was completed in a few days. I also needed my shore station converted to handle the pontoon boat and they had Superior Lakefront take care of that within a few days The next day my pontoon boat was delivered to my pier and my old bowrider taken back to Retzlaff for sale. At Retzlaff Rob was great to deal with and his staff was very helpful. The team of Dave and Justin at Superior Lakefront were also great to work with in having my shore station moved and converted. Well done by everyone. I recommend Retzlaff and Superior Lakefront. ... Read more

I do not like leaving negative reviews - but I also believe in giving others a heads up. In early August 2021 we called Retzlaff Marine because our 1998 35hp Evinrude motor was not running right and we were going on vacation with it in the next couple weeks. It would get up to speed and then it would suddenly go right back down to an idle - it did not die but it would not maintain a higher speed. I called spoke with Brian the service manager and he said they could most likely diagnose it within an hour and that they charge $125 per hour. My husband brought them the boat and they called a few days later and said our carbs were bad and needed to be rebuilt - said top 2 carbs were over fueling. Price quoted was $760 to rebuild the carbs. We thought that was a lot and called another repair place just outside Oconomowoc and they quoted $250-300 to rebuild the carbs so we picked up our boat from Retzlaff and took it to the other place outside of Oconomowoc to get the carbs rebuilt. (Or so we thought) We got a call from the other place a couple days later saying our boat was ready to be picked up - that it was all fixed but they said it was NOT the carbs at all - it was a different problem. Last year my husband was told to start pre-mixing the oil with the gas and stop using the oil injection system because they eventually fail. That said... my husband was never told to disconnect the oil injection system, so the problem was that the oil injection system was still trying to get oil -- and bogging down the motor trying to pull in oil from it. Final conclusion - Retzlaff really did not know what was wrong with our Evinrude motor - they were just guessing at a pretty price tag of $760 PLUS the $150 diagnostic fee. So what if they would have done all that work to rebuild the carbs for that price? You guessed it... our motor still would not be running right - and we would have sat on vacation with a boat that was not running good after paying all that money. Thankfully we took it to another place to get repaired and it ran excellent our entire vacation. I highly recommend you seek another boat repair shop or at the very least get a 2nd opinion. We will not be going back to Retzlaff Marine. ... Read more

WHAT A RIPOFF! Don't put anything on consignment with these shady con-artists. They sold a boat I had on consignment with them. Instead of being an intelligent business and get paid with a certified check so they know the payment is good, they took a personal check, and then had the audacity to make ME WAIT until THEIR CHECK CLEARED. What would happen if it didn't?? I DON'T GET MY MONEY!!??? I had to wait over 10 days for my money and then along with $300 in other BS charges they actually TAXED ME ON THEIR COMMISSION!!??? The $1000 I paid them on consignment was taxed!!! So I had to give them an additional $55. What a bunch of BS. There was no communication. I had to constantly call them to find out what was happening. (when and if they answered the phone) I will NEVER do business with this company again and will tell all my friends to stay clear. Complete joke. ... Read more

Terrible! Promised we would get our boat in 2 weeks. Since we were not a "preferred customer" that stores our boat there, we had to wait for service and got our boat 4+ weeks later. Others were a "priority " we were told. (Never mind the $500+ we spent last year there on service!). We had to swap out motors this year. About a 3 hour job. Went to pick it up and they did not complete the job. " I can't remember everything" he said (even though he had a pen and was writing down what needed to be done when we brought it in!). So they kept the boat 3 days longer (over a 90 degree weekend 6/23/13)for a 5 minute repair they didn't even finish properly.Had the boat back 1 day and we have 2 hours in it fixing all the wiring they screwed up! And have more to go. Cut lines to our bilge pump, fuel gauge disconnected, controls not secured and new throttle cables binding up! They charge a dollar per zip tie and then cut most of them off and left them laying there for the 5 minute repair they did! Very poor workmanship. Very unprofessional! and they don't even seem to care. Time to find another shop! My advice: don't chance it! ... Read more
