The owner, Ken Higgins, didn’t call me back until the third message at the time that the unit was already going up for auction. I told him that my son‘s father had passed away and asked if he would work with us with payments so that we didn’t lose his father‘s last belongings. The man refused to help. He told me a story about people lying to him saying they have cancer so they don’t have to pay, he said things with racist undertones, he told a story about people that had broken into the yard after they had been denied access and then asked if I had any guns to trade for rent. When I called back to say that I had come up with $950 towards the $1037 amount that he had given me, he raise the amount to over $1500 in less than a week and now he says he’s auctioning everything off. My son’s father has a flatbed trailer, parked there as well. The items are worth more than the original amount he told me to come up with so I can only assume that he realized the value and he raised the amounts. He said his attorney told him he could not make deals on what was owed. This is a terrible man. It is a terrible establishment, and although a couple of the workers are very nice people, the owner has the final say, and you should never rent from this establishment. God forbid something happened to your family, and this is the man that you have to deal with . UPDATE My son is now being told to sign over a trailer worth 2k for a $900 credit and still needs to pay over $1000 more! This man is a crooked business owner. I’m calling BBB and getting an itemized report. ... Read more

Great Place to store! Older Mini-storage with great rates and locally owned. Just Changed their name to Discount Storage which fits their prices! After calling around I was surprised at the discounted rate I was offered!!Easy access for my large moving truck. They were quick to give me free recycled packing boxes when I ran out...I'd stopped by the office to buy boxes and they offered the use of recycled boxes that you return when you move out. Great idea! I'm looking forward to free heat in winter and there's no hidden fees such as computer fees, sign up fees etc. one guy I met had been there 3 years and hadn't had a rent increase. I called around to other storage companies and none would guarantee no rate increase for 6 months or more like Discount did. The unit I rented was $80 cheaper than the closest competitor!!Great price and Nice people! ... Read more

The price for storing my car there for three and a half weeks was pretty good I had to go to a long trip out of the country and I found what I returned, one of my tires was flat but that was not the storage places problem. I was lucky to found a good secure spot and I was happy with the price. ... Read more

I will simply state the facts. I would not recommend this place. Upon arrival, the size of the unit that I needed was not available. I ended up paying more than I expected for the next largest unit. The owner was not flexible in negotiating a price despite the fact that I was going to be renting the unit for a full year. My storage unit was one of many that was broken into. Nothing was stolen. The heat went out for several days in the middle of winter. Once I moved out after a year it took nearly 2 months to receive my deposit and my pro rated rent. ... Read more

A year ago I moved back to Anchorage from the Lower 48 and discovered that storage prices here had skyrocketed in the 3 years I'd been Outside. I only needed a small space for some extra boxes, and couldn't see paying $180 a month. Space Place Storage offered me the space I needed, with free heat, at a third of that. Even better was the outstanding customer service. I never had a rude or unfriendly person. I understand that a few years ago they were under different management, and whoever is in charge now is obviously invested in excellent customer service. Staff remember you and are extremely professional. I moved into a place with more storage and didn't need my space anymore. When I walked into the office to sign the paperwork to move out, I didn't think for one minute that I'd have my pro-rated refunded and deposit in my bank account before I left the building. They really have an efficient system down. If you need 24-hour access to your space, this probably isn't the place for you, as I think one of the reasons the folks are so friendly is that they have reasonable working hours, but if you are looking for extra storage you only have to access every so often, you absolutely cannot beat the prices or the service. I plan on recommending them whenever possible. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Discount Storage - 6305 Brayton Drive has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate and Credit Cards Accepted. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
