Avoid this place at all costs. The staff has no idea how the billing system works and supposedly one person is supposed to be the one dealing with auto pay and setting the ccards up in the system but they'll continue to call and ask for your credit card number over and over every month then promise you that they'll get it handled. After the 3rd time of this i canceled my account, moved out, and they kept $19.35 of my $60 deposit even though the unit was clean. No one seems to know how or why they came up with that number, but the deposit refund check comes from some other place and they "can't control it." Seriously, go somewhere else. This place is garbage. ... Read more

I had a disappointing experience with this storage company. Paying $70 a month for a small unit should come with a reasonable expectation of cleanliness. However, I was shocked to find my items covered in rat droppings. I stored furniture and power tools, and now the furniture is heavily soiled, and some power tool cords have been chewed. This resulted in a significant loss of merchandise. When I raised this issue with the front desk, their response was disheartening – "it happens a lot." This lack of accountability and disregard for customers' belongings is unacceptable. ... Read more

Rented from them in the past. Never had an issue. They even waited 30 mins after the gate closed to let me come back and lock my unit one time. They drafted my monthly rental automatically and when I canceled they stopped. Nice people in the office too. ... Read more

Anyone in the Helena/Maylene/Pelham area. DO NOT use Helena 1st Self Storage! We went to get our stuff out of our storage building (that we had been paying for since March) and there was a hole in the roof through which water had leaked into our unit and a bunch of our stuff is ruined, including Rory's wooden play kitchen. When we got it home and opened it up, roaches spilled out of it. We contacted the owner and they said that it is not their problem, too bad. We have tried to work it out with them, but they don't care. They said that one of the clauses says that they are not liable for tornado, wind or flood damage. My response was that this damage is not due to natural disaster or circumstances, but rather, failure to maintain their property. I paid 11 months of rent to keep my belongings safe, dry and protected. We are in the process of consulting an attorney. I had to throw out bedding which was moldy, the wooden play kitchen is warped, and all the wooden playfood is ruined. Not to mention the roaches that spilled out of it when we got it home. ... Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
