I have been a long-time customer at Self Unlimited Storage for many years, but my recent experience with their staff and owner has left me extremely disappointed. Yesterday, I received a call from the manager regarding a past due payment. As soon as I realized the purpose of the call, I offered my new credit card number, explaining that my previous card had to be closed due to bank fraud. The manager told me the total was $40.00, which I found surprising as my usual monthly fee is closer to $200.00. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she made me wait while she looked into the error. Given it was a Sunday and I had family over, I suggested she call me back once she had more information. When she called back, she confirmed an inflated bill of $40.00, including a penalty fee, and warned that if I didn't pay that day, an additional $25.00 fee would be added. Despite explaining my situation as a long-time customer with automatic payments who had been a victim of fraud, and this being the first time, she was unsympathetic and insisted on enforcing the penalties. I expressed my disappointment in her handling of the situation and asked for some consideration given my history with the company. Her response was rude and dismissive, and when I asked to speak with the owner, she told me to call back on Monday. Later, the owner, James Ewing, called me while I was driving with my family. Instead of understanding my situation, he started the conversation by defending the manager, stating, "listen, that's my best manager." This defensive approach without even hearing my side of the story was disappointing. Despite my history of positive interactions with James, this call felt confrontational and dismissive. Today, I received an even larger bill, including the additional $25.00 penalty fee. This entire experience has shown a lack of empathy and respect for long-time customers. It's clear that the priority at Self Storage is enforcing penalties rather than understanding and resolving customer issues. If you most recent reviews are all ONE STAR REVIEWS, it should raise a red flag and take steps to correct this issue. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of customer service and treating people with respect. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Self Unlimited Storage has been quite the opposite. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions when choosing a storage facility. ... Read more

Potential customers BEWARE!!!! As many other reviews state this location is ran by a very unprofessional staff that only provides its customers with misinformation. THE OWNER IS AN EXTREMELY RUDE GENTLEMAN that is unwilling to listen to you as a paying customer. He will talk over you & does not have the ability or attitude that an owner should have! He has NO empathy, respect or quite frankly anything you need to run a business and have happy customers. Do your due diligence before becoming a customer here and search for your next best choice because chances are you will be disappointed ... Read more

These people suck, the owner is a control freak just trying to gouge people out of anything he can. I have been there for over five years and what happened to me was a biodegradable bag fell apart in my unit which means it fell apart into dust. This manager said he doesn’t know what biodegradable is and that he had to hire somebody to come clean up the mess Which I did the best I could, because I forgot to bring a broom, and he had to hire somebody and had to supposedly use some sort of cleanser which water would’ve just been fine there would not been no stains or anything, I would have gone over there however the very next day I got sick with the flu, so I was just trying to get better before I went back but instead he made a big deal about it and charged me over $160 , I asked him to work with me and he refused and instead started acting like a jerk, so I warn everybody do not spend your money there it will be a waste, you’ll end up being upset and by the way, there is no place to put your garbage there and there’s no bathroom you can use & the hours are so inconvenient !!!! ... ** Must read if u are going to rent here. IMPORTANT READ ** When I was in Hawaii… my storage unit place (this storage unit place “self storage unlimited on Peabody rd) cut my locks, put a new one on without my consent and also doubled locked it so nobody could get into it and said that someone tried to impersonate me… ummm okay…. U don’t ask for ID? They acknowledged that someone came in that wasn’t me but wants to charge me $71 for the cut and the new lock fee and now wants to up charge me $35 more a month because they didn’t like how my brother in law handle the situation. I wasnt present in those times so why do I have to deal with the consequences? THEY DID NOT HAVE MY CONSENT TO CUT THE LOCKS! And how are u gonna double lock my unit and locking us out when I pay every month for that unit, never late because it automatically charges my card every month. I really wanna sue them. I’m already gonna move my stuff out there before next billing cycle but… What can I do? Thoughts ? It’s crazy because I guess anyone can come in and say, I lost my keys, that’s my unit, can u cut the locks and give me a new one? That is a security problem and anyone can get their stuff stolen that easily. SMDH I had important papers I need that day and had issues and now made my life harder… I could’ve sold something from that unit that cost me $5000 and now I’m at a lost. It could be anything. Can I freaking lawyer up? Sheesh. It could’ve been all let go if they hold themselves accountable for their mistake. My brother lost the keys and asked if they had a spare or what can they do and they said that there was nothing they could do about it until they could get the owner of the rental unit renters consent so my brother went home and found the keys… so came back and by then the locks were already cut and changed out. So they went to the front desk to get the keys from there and they gave it to him then later on, when my brother came back again, they noticed a second lock was put on not allowing them to enter. I, the owner of the rental unit was still not home from Hawaii yet, had to come back and deal with this mess when it shouldn’t have been like this in the first place if they were to just wait till I got home and settled it myself. The manager or the owner is not a nice guy and blamed us for being at fault for someone trying to impersonate me when all they had to do was just ask for Identification. It could be possible the employee may had left a note and it was a misunderstanding between the two that lead to my locks being cut and changed out without my consent. I did nothing wrong here and I am getting my rent raised by $35 a month and that’s most likely because he wants to rid of me over $71 of their own mistakes. This place is convenient but I will not give my money to to kind of man who treats his clients this way. Don’t make any complaints and get on his bad side cuz he will find his ways to try to throw u out. Also, when asked why my payment for this month is still pending, they said is because I had insufficient funds… that’s a lie! I use my card all the time and it has never froze on me. I just think he is very petty and does things to make extra cash when he can, and does things to make u late on a payment In hopes that u don’t notice so he can take it to another level of maybe charging a late fee or with hold your things or to remove u from the premises. Be careful renting here. ?? God bless everyone and I hope people reads this cuz this is important and a serious matter of security. ... Read more

The price for unit size are fair in comparison to other places around this area. The location isn't the most convenient as it's on Peabody which is a long, 2 lane back road that can get a lot of traffic throughout the day. The facility is very clean and they have a lot of cameras so you definitely don't have to worry about your stuff, which is a plus. The biggest drawback is that access hours are from 6am-9pm and if you are there after 9pm, they charge you a fee of $25 for the first 30 minutes then an additional $25 for each 30 minutes after - which is CRAZY. They also don't allow access on any federal holidays, which is super inconvenient. However, those 2 things are pretty affordable so all in all I give them 4/5 stars. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Self Storage Unlimited - 5055 Peabody Road has to offer. These amenities include Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
