Read some helpful reviews of State Street Storage at 4001 State Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I have been a customer of State Street Storage since 2009. The fee for a 10x10 storage was monthly deducted from my credit card. Sometime in late 2021 the payment was rejected; I don't know the reason because my card was not expired. I didn't realize the charge was not going through, State Street Storage had my email address and my phone number but never bothered to contact me instead they sent notices to my old address and when they didn't hear back, they decided to auction my belongings. After 14 years of being their customer auctioning my items was what they decided I deserved. I lost many valuable personal belongings included documents, photos, and items that I saved when I fled a warzone country, they are all gone. To this day, they have not apologized, instead argued it was my fault for not updating my mailing address that they assume I was dead. When I found out I was furious, you cannot imagine my anger, I was not expecting this after 14 years of renting the storage. In this time and age where business is conducted 90 percent by email and phone how come it never occurred to them to try to email or call me before auctioning my items? Their action caused me a lot of pain, I try hard to avoid thinking what items I had in the storage. If I were you, I would pick another storage. ... Read more

Really nice facility, be wary of the manager (you can't miss him he's huge) . The manager (Jaime) I'd a really A-hole and likes to try and belittle people and intimidate then. Fairly expensive as for as other facilities in The area. The gate times could be more accommodating. ... Read more

Storage itself is ok. I have several issues with them however; the woman I spoke to on multiple occasions both in person and over the phone is unprofessional and does not seem to know what she is doing. They are not offering their moving truck services "due to covid" despite still advertising on their website about it. The elevator was not large enough to fit half of a sectional couch so I had to take it up 3 flights of stairs. Considering how much I paid for the unit, I should not have had as many problems that I did. This was the only place that had storage space left so I didn't really have a choice, but they have made moving more stressful than it should have been. I got several calls on different mornings (back to back if I did not answer) while I was either in class or work just for them to tell me my lock looked weird. Overall, unprofessional vibes and not the most convenient storage space. ... Read more

State Street Storage is absolutely the best storage company in Santa Barbara. Having an affordable and prime location in Santa Barbara that is close to Goleta, the staff has been excellent in providing courteous and kind service, assisting with my every need for the past year an a half that I have been a client. Jamie, the Office Manager, is exemplary in his customer service, ensuring I and my family have had all questions and concerns accounted for while going above and beyond my expectations. I have never been more satisfied as a customer. If you need your treasured belongings stored and cared for, this is truly the storage company for you! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that State Street Storage - 4001 State Street has to offer. These amenities include Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
