I do not recommend Extra Space Storage. They seem focused on squeezing every dollar out of me, no matter the situation. I was originally told my final month would be prorated, but when I moved out they suddenly insisted the full month had already been charged and “can’t be prorated.” The staff was rude and dismissive the entire time, which only made the situation worse.
On top of that, when I asked about a senior discount, I was told it only applies if you were “born in the 1940s,” which makes absolutely no sense and completely contradicts what I had been told before. The inconsistency and lack of professionalism were unbelievable.
Beware that they do increase a steep rental price after ~ 9 to 10 months.
Overall, the experience was inconsistent, unprofessional, and very customer-unfriendly. I won’t be using this company again. ... Read more

BEWARE -- your signing price will not persist.
Before renting I called to find out how best to persist the price I was signing for. I'd put down 12 months payment if required. Ideally, I'd like to just put it on auto-pay and forget for the moment. I was advised that either way made no difference.
3 months later, I got a postcard where MY RENT HAS DOUBLED!
What's to say 3 months following I won't find another postcard doubling again? I don't trust them. I'm not some fly-by-night college student. If they cannot appreciate a steady customer with no hassles then I guess they can have an empty unit as there are alternatives out there.

When I signed up for my storage unit, I was given a rate of $120 a month. After 3 months of storage, the rate jumped up to $220 without notice (they say they mailed me a 30 day notice but I never got it, and why would they mail me a notice when all of our other communications have been via email?). They’re basically running a scam in which they get you to sign up for a rate that feels fair, let that price sit for a few months and then they suddenly jack up the rate by 80%. I walked into Extra Space Storage on Arapahoe on what was easily one of the worst weeks of my life.
Within seven days, I’d lost my job, torn something in my leg at the gym (crutches included), and my dog (my best friend) had gone missing. My apartment was chaos, my head was worse, and I needed to store my belongings because I genuinely didn’t know what the next month of my life looked like.
Enter Geraldine.
From the moment I walked in, she didn’t treat me like a transaction, a unit number, or a problem to process. She treated me like a human being who was clearly having a hard time. She slowed down, listened, asked thoughtful questions, and somehow struck the perfect balance between professionalism and real compassion.
She went way beyond what her job requires, explaining options clearly, helping me find exactly what I needed (not what cost more), and making sure I felt confident and taken care of at a time when I felt anything but. She noticed the crutches. She noticed the stress. And instead of ignoring it, she met it with kindness.
I didn’t walk out with just a storage unit, I walked out feeling calmer, steadier, and honestly… a little more hopeful. That may sound dramatic for a storage facility, but when someone shows up with genuine care during a low point, it matters.
Geraldine is the definition of exceptional customer service. Not because she followed a script, but because she saw me. If every business had someone like her at the front line, the world would function a whole lot better.

The staff waiting on me today at Extra Space Storage were suburb. He answered all my questions and did his best to show me the storage facility before I signed the lease (he did not have a key to the unit). I would have given 5 stars if the review only reflected the attention from staff - however, one star is subtracted given the inability of the business to provide better lighting in the storage areas, and the rather sketchy area surrounding the storage unit location. Geraldine, my location’s facility manager is exceptional. I know she’s having a hard time with staffing and many times she was having to be in a hundred places at once! 63rd Street location has decent facilities - concrete block walls and better-quality, functional garage doors. Staff was generally courteous and helpful.
Pro Tip: Storage companies lure you in with low rates and then increase them rapidly after you have moved in, with increases of 20+% not uncommon. My last increase at this facility was north of 30%, which seemed egregious and compelled me to depart. Storage companies can do this because many people are unwilling to go through the pain of moving their belongings to new storage facility and instead choose to pay the higher rate. The hack is this… many storage companies will allow you to prepay your rent. If you have the ability to do so, you can prepay and lock in the low rate for the period of time you know you will need the facility. The location is well-maintained and the storage space itself was a good size. Check in and check out is relatively simple. Felt very secure.
