Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

For what it's worth, at the beginning of my rental I had no issues with the service at this location. Getting the unit was easy and hassle free. I have had the unit for just over a year and during the time I have had multiple issues. For one, I was hit with late fees because the website had several options for payment, I opted to use my bank account info, to only later be told that the option on the site was actually not functional. And after contacting customer service and explaining to them what happened, I was denied any sort of reimbursement. They told me to try and not miss payments even though it was a system failure on their end. I was hit with late fees at least 3 times, as the website kept reverting back to the bank account option of payment, even after setting my card info as my default and each time I was was denied reimbursement, despite the the system failure being on their end. My true breaking point was the insane price gouging I was experiencing towards the end of my rental agreement. Don't get me wrong, it's typical for storage spaces to raise their prices overtime, especially for long-term renting, but my rental price went up just about $150 in less than six months. Overall, there were just too many system failures on their end with no accountability, money hungry, and poor customer service. I would not recommend this storage space unless you are willing to throw your wallet at them or want a condescending customer service representative. ... Read more

I had an exceptional experience with James at Public Storage in East Hartford. He took the time to explain everything clearly and thoroughly, without rushing or glossing over details. I appreciated his patience while I carefully read through the documents before signing—he made sure I was comfortable and fully informed the entire time. Professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. This is exactly how customer service should be done. ... Read more

I terminated my account in august and they kept charging me as if the storage wasn’t closed even after I received a confirmation email showing the storage wasn’t closed. They had the nerve to say I was still responsible for the bill because the lock was on but not once did they call or email to ask me if I was all set. Common sense would tell you if someone closed an account and they forgot to take the lock off is because they don’t need the lock so why not call to confirm at the moment they noticed or cut it off knowing the account was finalized! ... I give it 3 stars because they only had 3 working carts. It was a Saturday. There were a lot of people. Having moved from Florida. I was not happy. I did find a dolly outside around a dumpster. The kind with 4 wheels. So I had to bend down to push the items that I had on it. The concrete was not level. So the items would slide off. It was one awful day. After traveling from Florida pulling a small trailer. On top of that i had to return it the same day. The only good thing about this. Another lady help. By helping me balance things while trying to navigate dolly over the concrete. It was back breaking. Really, in my opinion knowing how busy it gets. They need more than 1 per floor. Some people had at least 2 storage units. ... Read more

Public storage, in the East Hartford location in particular, is amazing. Thank you Joe My family and I have had such a stressful and tiring month of September with moving our things and figuring out what’s the best and most cost efficient place to put it in. When we had a million questions and some tough decisions to make, Joe was patient. He had the answer to every single question and even gave us a call when he found open opportunities for us. He did everything he could to make sure that we closed the deal with confidence in our decision. Everything worked out smoothly. He needs a promotion. Thank you again. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
