Unbelievable - my family member got a notice that this company bought the prior company CT SelfStor, and is immediately raising their rate by something like 50%. This new rate is way above what they are offering to new customers. What a disgraceful way to treat existing customers and “welcome” them to the Public Storage family. I read on the company's last earnings call that they deployed the Next digital platform "to optimize pricing and reduce churn". Someone needs to let the local team in CT/Meriden know optimizing pricing and reducing churn DOES NOT mean gouge existing customers with increases way above the new customer street rates (which will then also get increased drastically in 3 -4 months)! This industry is on its way to being regulated. ... Read more

Ron was by far THE MOST knowledgeable professional agent that walked me through the transition from CT Self Store into the new Public Storage company. He explained, in detail, everything I needed to know to quell worries and inquiries, and put me at ease for continuing my future storage. He is the one to seek out and have assign you a unit, as well as walk you through this transition if you are already a client. ... Read more

BEWARE - More REIT games. This company just bought out the Meriden CT SelfStor on Broad Street, and are immediately raising rates 30-40+%. What a disgrace! The very customers that made up the fully rented facility get penalized, yet they are offering rates well below this for strangers coming in as new customers. Sounds like a violation of the CT Unfair Trade Practices Act. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At Public Storage - 99 Broad Street, available security amenities may include Security Camera, Gate, Onsite Manager, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

    • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
    • Perishable food
    • Live plants or animals
