I am VERY disappointed! I had been storing multiple important family documents in these units such as old family photos and when I recently came to check on them the unit was covert in rat droppings and some of the documents were partially destroyed! This is ridiculous and unacceptable! They cant keep their units clean and they try to increase the price as well! Awful! ... Read more

AVOID THIS UNIT AT ALL COSTS. Public storage will entice you with a discounted rate, but after 3 months they will try to DOUBLE the price. They absolutely refuse to negotiate, and the only way to keep a reasonable affordable unit is to rent a new one at the discounted rate every 6 months, requiring you to move everything you own again. Additionally, the units are infested with rats and cockroaches, other reviews by other individuals can also attest to this. Our belongings are frequently damaged or destroyed by rats, cockroaches, or the melting roof insulation. When contacting public storage to address these concerns, the refuse to negotiate price or investigate our complaints. ... Read more

Customer service lured me in back in March with an end of the month “discount” for $80/Month. Assured me that was locked in and wouldn’t go up.. only 3 months in and I get an email that I’ll be paying almost $130 month, starting next month. Classic bait and switch. The onsite manager was very sweet and helpful though.. can’t remember her name at the moment. ... Read more

Do not trust your valuables to the Public Storage on 56th St! Everything in my entire unit was destroyed by rat infestation, termites, and black mold. They have one job: to store your things and they woefully fail at that. When I told the person at the front desk that my unit was infested, she didn't even look up from what she was doing and said she'd file an incident report which tells me this happens all the time. If you want to waste your money in rent (that they increased on the regular) and have all your possessions destroyed, by all means, give Public Storage on 56th St your business. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
