I wish I could remember the employee’s name when I went to Skokie for the first time on Thursday, July 24, 2025. As a woman, I found it scary to navigate a big building with few people around but I asked if she could show me the ropes and she was so helpful and patient. I would suggest posting directional signs on the walls as you get off the elevator in case you’re not sure where to go, which I really needed. We wandered about with a cart until we could figure out where my storage unit was located and it was really hot and humid that day so looking for it made it worse. It would be really helpful to have it posted. Also, an emergency alert button would make me as s woman feel safer. I did appreciate how clean and organized the building and grounds were. Thanks for the opportunity to review. ... Read more

So far, so good. I just moved in. Roger was very helpful with the walk through and explained everything that I need to know. I was prepared when I returned with my movers a few days later. The facilities are very clean and there were enough moving carts to go around! ... Read more

I've been renting a unit here for the past 5 years. The district manager named Darien took care of my issues here at this location. He is very understanding and willing to work with you. Please ask for the district manager's phone number if there's anything you'd like to address but cannot be resolved by the staffs in this location. ... Read more

UPDATE: My experience has improved. I did receive a call from them regarding the areas they could improve in, and I have seen the effort put forth to do so, so I've allowed my things to remain there. New, heated, and clean, but none of that matters when there's ALWAYS a problem with locating a cart to move your things around with, and rude staff members who tell you "There's nothing they can do about it, you just have to go search for one!" If I'm not mistaken, there's 4 floors there, REALLY!? SMH ..... ... Read more

The unit I rented has climate control, which gives me peace of mind knowing that my belongings are kept in a stable environment, especially since I store sensitive items. Roger here is friendly and always willing to help. The facility is clean, secure, and easily accessible. Plus, the online reservation system was super convenient! Highly recommend this location if you need reliable storage.” ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Public Storage - 5830 Howard Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The storage units offered by Public Storage - 5830 Howard Street can satisfy all of your storage needs. Different sizes here range from 25 to 250 square feet. You can go for smaller units if you don't have a lot of items to store, while choosing a larger space is recommended in case you need to store a lot of furniture, bigger items or even vehicles.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

Storage units offered by Public Storage - 5830 Howard Street come at a variety of prices, starting from $32 per month for typically smaller units. However, larger spaces can set you back up to $398 a month.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
