Use anyone but Public Storage. This was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Before move-in, I had someone visit the original unit to make sure everything was accessible when my movers arrived. When we got there, we had no access to the property. Despite them saying we can access it when we would like I called customer service and asked to be transferred to a location that actually offered 24/7 access. They transferred me to the Highway 55 location in Cary, assuring me it would solve the problem. After driving there, the gate code they provided didn't work either. Someone eventually let me in remotely and reassured me the code had been reset and would work. It didn't. When I asked the representative to stay on the phone while I tested the code to make sure I could actually access the building, they refused. Instead, they transferred me to the property manager's line, which of course went unanswered because it was around midnight. To make matters worse, you need a working gate code not only to enter but also to exit the property. My movers, who I was paying by the hour, and I ended up stuck on the property without access to the storage unit I had specifically been told offered 24/7 access. The only reason I drove from Chapel Hill to Cary was because I was assured I would be able to access the unit at any time. Customer service was anything but helpful, and the entire experience cost me valuable time and money. I would not recommend Public Storage to anyone ... Read more

I was assisted by Natalie at the Myrica Street storage in Chapel Hill. Natalie was probably the best customer interaction I have ever had. In person, she guided me through the process and even connected me with other Public Storage locations that could help me with my specific needs, calling ahead to make sure they were open. Later in the week, after I left the state, Natalie called me back about a unit she had, and she even videotaped how I could get into the unit with some large pieces so I could see if the hallways and turns would be a problem. Finally, AFTER is registered for a unit, Natalie called me to tell me another unit became available that could suit my needs even better. 10 Stars to Natalie!!! ... Read more

Public Storage is a great solution when scaling down or temporarily storing items. It's extremely efficient to reserve, rent, and access a climate controlled space. Inside and out, the facilities are impeccably clean. The access codes easily open and close the gates which maintain security and safety. My only complaint is the cost. The rental fees automatically increase over time, which can be very expensive if renting a space long term. However, their ONLINE $1/first month incentive helps. I don't like the fact that it seems insurance is optional when ordering, but somehow is auto- enrolled in the second month. To remove insurance, one needs to visit their office in person (which can be inconvenient after a challenging move). But overall, their storage solutions make life easier. The staff is super friendly too, especially Mikey in Chapel Hill (Myrica location) and Deborah in Cary (located off hwy 55)!! ... Read more

I called and spoke with I believe she said Natalie and she was absolutely amazing taking the time to answer all our questions and provide pricing and gave her opinion on what size would be most suitable for our needs. Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.
