*MAJOR UPDATE* - 3/17/25 It has been 6 months since my previous negative post. Please note that while Management acknowledged my review and said they were committed to making improvements, they did absolutely nothing. As such, some thieves recently broke into the facility with ease and robbed my camper of several thousand dollars worth of products. I've never seen anyone at MyPlace act so quickly to make sure it was known they weren't liable for any of the damages. I immediately received several calls and texts telling me as much. The thieves entered through a broken fence that took all of two seconds because MyPlace has the bare minimum of security at this facility. Ironically, this is the same month that I received an email that my rent was going up to $130/month. It was $79 when they acquired the facility a year ago. Since then the only changes that have been made were a new $10k sign out front with their branding, and a gate system that is remarkably worse than the perfectly decent one they took out. I caution you to learn from my mistakes. This was the final straw and I moved my camper today to another facility in the area. I should not have been as patient with MyPlace's terrible business practices as I was, and it was just a matter of time until I was robbed. ORIGINAL POST: After previously being bribed into deleting a negative post about MyPlace Self-Storage, I am returning to re-post a negative review because the experience has not gotten any better and my attempts to give them a good faith effort to improve have proven to be futile. The facility was never great under 10 Federal's ownership, but the affordability justified the experience. MyPlace overpaid for the facility and proceeded to pass those costs onto the existing customers while making zero capital improvement projects to the facility or the security. Their only expenditure has been to put up new signage, which is an added benefit to exactly no one. Meanwhile, the gate operating system has worsened (you can no longer open it via text), security cameras have remained scarce (it's an easy and great target for any aspiring thieves, if you're interested), and they cut costs on the landscaping so the people in charge of the grass don't bother mowing or weed-eating around the parking spaces. MyPlace has increased rates by 53% in the year since they acquired the facility. Do you see all of the most recent posts and how they're all negative experiences? These are all since MyPlace acquired the facility. Do you then see how Management responds to each negative review asking for you to reach out to them via email? That's their effort to privately bribe you with one month's free rent in hopes you will delete your negative review. The company is a disaster and I would highly recommend considering all other available options in southern Durham before climbing in bed with this soulless entity. ... Read more

Tenants: Shop elsewhere. This is the worst storage facility in NC. Thieves: You have come to the right place! Since acquiring the facility in 2024, MyPlace has eagerly increased rents while doing nothing to improve the security at the facility. There remain just two cameras in the entire place, both pointed directly at the gate, as if that's how thieves are accessing the facility or individual units. The exterior chain link fence is badly in need of repair and there are lots of entrance points to climb in, should you so desire. My camper was recently robbed after some thieves took on the arduous task of pulling back a broken part of the fence and climbing through a rotted, wooden plank fence that was already missing panels. I'm sure this elaborate security system set them back upwards of 30 seconds to penetrate. I cannot stress to you enough how poorly-managed this facility and company are. The most action and fastest response I've gotten out of them in the past year, despite numerous requests to at least add cameras if they were going up 60% with rate increases, was when they were notified that there had been a robbery. They wanted to make sure I knew to file a police report and that they were not in any way liable for anything that had happen to my belongings. There are numerous other better options and better companies in the area, including Brassfield Storage which is just half a mile down the same road. I would highly-encourage you to look at them. Note that MyPlace's Google rating is only boosted because they bought the facility from 10 Federal and inherited those reviews. They have only had one positive review since acquiring the facility, and it's fairly obvious that Nicolas Rincon was paid or compensated for that one, because not a single one of his statements was true. They have made no improvements in the way of security and they have done nothing to clean up the place. The entire back fence line looks like a trash dump. ... Read more

Our Robotics team was in search of a sponsor for storage space. We reached out to several locations in the Triangle area, including this one. This location was the only one that responded and collaborated with us to secure sponsorship. Working with Sam was fantastic; she was incredibly responsive and went above and beyond to support our Robotics team. We highly recommend this storage facility for your business storage needs. ... They got bought buy myplace storage. Previously, it was managed by 1p federal storage. After the switch, Terrible experience. I was given wrong information multiple times about moving out and never received the promised follow-up. I got stuck and locked inside the facility for 3h and customer service gave the wrong code to open the gate. Now, I'm stuck paying for the company's mistakes. Extremely disappointed with their service and lack of communication. Avoid this place. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that MyPlace Self Storage - 3822 South Alston Avenue has to offer. These amenities include Indoor, 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Kiosk Available, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, First Floor Access, Online Payment and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The storage units offered by MyPlace Self Storage - 3822 South Alston Avenue can satisfy all of your storage needs. Different sizes here range from 25 to 300 square feet. You can go for smaller units if you don't have a lot of items to store, while choosing a larger space is recommended in case you need to store a lot of furniture, bigger items or even vehicles.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

Storage units offered by MyPlace Self Storage - 3822 South Alston Avenue come at a variety of prices, starting from $42 per month for typically smaller units. However, larger spaces can set you back up to $210 a month.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
