I was one of the 1st to use the new location on Guess rd in Durham, NC. I am a business owner and understand the concept of offering a low intro price, but since I have been using them, they have raised the rates 4 times in 18 months. That is a bit excessive by any standard. In my line of work I have customers who need storage while I am providing services, and it is for this reason I NEVER recommend Public Storage. Another profit hungry company. ... Read more

[Edit!!]. after removing all of my property from the unit, they sent me an email stating they were going to charge me a "$125 Clean Up Fee" because (according to them) i left the unit "unrentable" because i left something in the unit. plus the monthly rent (which they increased three times) even tho i emptied it a week before the end of the month .. too much to type now.. //nice clean place. I think they charge a lil too much tho.. ... Read more

This place is well organized. The storage sheds are big and clean, they are bigger than the other storage units in Durham. I am glad that I stopped by to check out the prices. One more thing, everyone that works here is professional and very helpful. ... Read more

This is a new storage unit. Overall, I like the facilities. I am concerned about my safety when I access my storage unit because the door to the storage building is not able to close. The door is getting progressively worse. I would appreciate it if management can get it fixed. Thank you. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.

At Public Storage - 3871 Guess Road, available security amenities may include Security Camera, Gate, Onsite Manager, designed to help keep your items protected.

Yes, most standard vehicles can be stored in self storage units. A 10x20 unit typically provides enough space for a car, while outdoor or designated parking areas may be available for larger vehicles.

For safety reasons, most self storage facilities restrict certain items. These commonly include:

    • Hazardous, flammable, or toxic materials
    • Perishable food
    • Live plants or animals
    • Cash, firearms, or irreplaceable valuables

Always check with the facility at 3871 Guess Road for specific restrictions and recommendations.
