I reserved a unit online. They gave me the unit number and an opportunity to switch. Renting the unit was smooth and by paying for 6 months I was able to lock in the price for that period. I have been there since a few times and it is always clean and the atmosphere is pleasant. Thank you, China and Elise for the great service! ... Read more

City Storage and Cellars is reliable and keeps belongings safe. The issue is price—rates rise every single year. I even downsized to save money, but soon ended up paying more for a smaller unit than I did for the larger one. Fine if you’re not price-sensitive, but most people are. ... Read more

I have been a customer at City Storage Space in Emeryville since 2022, initially due to the excellent service of an employee who is no longer with the company. While I am generally satisfied with the arrangement, there are several aspects that have been less than ideal. Before storing your belongings at City Storage Space, I wanted to share my experience: Monthly Charges: The monthly fee increased every six months. Insurance: A mandatory insurance charge of $12 is imposed to cover $2000. Policy Changes: Changes are notified regularly. Prorated Charges: I was charged prorated rates on move-in, but did not receive a refund on move-out. Given these points, it would be difficult to disagree once your belongings are already in place, especially if you are 3000 miles away. In any event, I felt the prorated charges were unfair and requested a refund for the remaining unused 23 days. When I called, the store manager, Ms. Fuller, and her assistant manager, Elise, were not particularly helpful. Their typical response was, "I understand your frustration, and I apologize, but there is nothing more I can do." Ms. Fuller also mentioned, "I have your information, and I will bring this up to my manager, but I cannot promise you that someone will call you back." I expressed my frustration by telling her that her words felt empty, which led to her getting upset and ending the call abruptly. This behavior does not align with the principles of good customer service. Unfortunately, a store manager like Ms. Fuller will likely remain in her position or move on to another company and continue this behavior. One more thing, you will only get a chance to sign the lease agreement after you have already made a deposit. How is that for transparency! ... Read more

Very clean, secure and climate controlled facility with indoor parking, elevators, public restroom, and filtered water. Has a loading dock for large trucks to easily bring/pick up large items. Management is professional, capable, friendly and trustworthy. Well-organized and good prices. We only moved out because we are relocating to different city, but I'd highly recommend if you need to safely store your stuff in Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville/Alameda area. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that City Storage-City Cellars - 4004 Adeline Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
