Website advertises "self storage"- when I signed up it had me pay, sign my lease, and it sent me a gate code. After driving hours hauling and moving, we arrived to find that the gate code did not work. We had to scramble to find a new storage option and unload the truck at the last minute. It was extremely frustrating and stressful. When calling the desk to request a refund, as the service was not "Self storage" as promised, they stated they would not give a refund. The employee said she would find out if an exception would be made and never called back. Not only that, but she did not even cancel my membership as I had asked. I had to log in and do this myself, even after she said she would cancel it for me. She also stated that they had been trying to call me, to tell me I had to come to the desk to sign paperwork, but I had no missed calls from their office on my phone log. I am not sure why I would even need to go into the office when I had signed a contract online and paid money for the unit. At that point, they were taking my money for a service they were not providing- because I could not access my unit I had paid for days earlier. I could not have gone into their office anyway, as I was moving from out of town- this is why I chose a SELF storage option. I needed to access the unit when I was arriving with my belongings, which after driving was after office hours. I would not have considered this location if I knew this, and no where did it say this online. I received a code via email at the time of sign up that said would get me in the gate. This code was apparently just a lie, I am not sure why it even generated or why they took my payment if I was not able to access my unit until I went into the office. I do not think they should accept payment for these units until we can access them. If that means they accept payments in the office at time of sign up, that would be a more fair option. But also, in my opinion, would not be a "self storage" option, because you really are not setting up and accessing by yourself. I feel cheated and honestly like this business stole from me, on top of making my move extremely stressful. I paid 100 dollars for something I ultimately could not use and did not meet my needs. Not allowing a renter access to their unit after they signed a contract and gave payment is unacceptable. And then to not provide proper customer service or follow up, was the cherry on top of this horrible experience. Go to Extra Space if you truly need a SELF storage option. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
