My family rents a climate controlled unit (F638) at the Cubesmart location at 3400 Highway 19 in Zachary, La 70791. On Saturday, October 12, 2024 we went to the unit to clear out somethings and organize stuff for our move next month. When we walked into the building, it was extremely warm and there was a terrible smell in the air. We opened our unit to find dead rats, lots of rat pellets and strong ammonia odor from rat pee. We immediately left out to call the front office. Rachel came back, looked at our unit, and said there was a rat infestation in this building because another tenant stored MRE’s there. I asked Rachel why other tenants were not notified of this so we could have come to check out units. She stated she did not feel like it was necessary because they did not think the rats went anywhere else. Well they must have thought so because once we got a lot of stuff moved we found several packets of rat poison. When I brought it to her attention she says that’s something they do as a precaution, but if that was the case there would have been way more packets because I have had this unit for at least 15 years. She then asked if we had insurance and that she could give us the number of a company to remove the rat infested items from our unit. This I did not understand because this was not our fault and you never told us about the infestation. I asked her why I should file with my insurance when this is not my fault. I also asked her why it was hot in the building. She stated there was changed in the temperature policy for climate controlled units to be set at 80 degrees. I then asked when and how were tenants notified of this change because I do not remember receiving an update like that. We left to get help and PPE to remove items from the unit. I phoned customer service and spoke with Mike to report this matter. He said a district manager would be in touch. I went to the front office to let Rachel know we were done and to terminate my lease agreement. Rachel said she could not do it until October 30th. Rachel said I would receive an email to that effect. Rachel also stated she had reported the issue and was requesting a refund for October’s rental fee. At around 5pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Rachel sends an email stating there was food in my storage unit and this violated lease agreement. She attached pictures with one crumbled Cheetos and a cheese stick wrapping. Rachel also phoned my daughter to inform her of these alleged findings. My daughter, Shaikira, then 3-way me in and asked her to repeat what she told her. Rachel said she found food in my unit therefore we have violated the lease agreement and there would be no refund for the monthly rental fee. I told her she was lying because I walked the entire unit and the only things left in there were dead rats, rat poop and three rat poison packets. Rachel did not do a walk through with me and all of a sudden food is in my unit. One fresh looking Cheetos in the back of the unit after 15 years really . The only thing I stored there were household items for my new home: Sheets, towels, clothes, pots, pans, lamps, books, family photos, etc. No foods, nothing flammable, etc. I then phoned customer service again and spoke with Amy. She apologized for the situation, said she would send more notes and she proceeded to give me the case number (Case number 1643590 on 10/12/2024) then name, and phone number of the district manager (Walter-225-494-0371). I spoke with Walter on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 8:50am, he said he would look up case number and check into matter and get back to me. I have not heard back from him even after phoning him several times and leaving a voicemail. This is unacceptable. My unit was infested and there were live rats jumping out of boxes at the dumpster. I tried uploading photos but it keeps giving me an error. ... Read more

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.
