Read some helpful reviews of iStorage, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I am updating my previous review because my experience with this facility has continued to get worse. I would like the property manager to call me directly to discuss these issues. When I first rented my unit, I was disappointed to find it was not clean or move-in ready. Approximately half of the unit was covered with about 1/4 inch of sand-like debris that appeared to be fertilizer, and there was even part of a bed frame left behind from the previous tenant. That should have been cleaned before renting the unit to a new customer. Today was an even bigger disappointment. My husband and I drove over 50 minutes to the facility specifically to drop off and pick up items from our storage unit. While we were there, five other vehicles arrived, and every one of us experienced problems accessing the property. I entered my gate code at least five different times, carefully following the instructions each time before calling customer service. Every attempt resulted in the same message: “Gate Disabled.” I’ve also been to this location previously when the gate was left wide open, and another customer told me that it frequently gets stuck open. That’s an obvious security concern for anyone storing valuables there. To make matters worse, every gate was secured with padlocks, and although I verified the office hours both online and on the signs at the facility before making the trip, the office was empty with no notice explaining why it was closed. After finally getting through the automated phone system and speaking with a representative, I was told my gate code didn’t work because I had never signed the paperwork. This made no sense because I rented the unit entirely over the phone, was assigned a unit number, received a gate code, and was never informed that additional paperwork was required before I would be able to access the facility. If something was missing, someone should have contacted me long before I drove nearly an hour to get there. The representative also stated that the location is closed on Wednesdays, yet there is no mention of that during the rental process, on the website, or on the posted signs. Ironically, another customer who has rented here for two years said he had never heard of the facility being closed on Wednesdays and believed that information was incorrect. This wasn’t just my problem. While we were standing there, multiple customers attempted to enter using their own gate codes and received the exact same “Gate Disabled” message. One customer also pointed out that the main gate was padlocked, leaving everyone unable to access the property they pay to use. Between renting me a dirty unit, the security concerns of gates being left open, the lack of communication, the inability to access the facility, and the wasted time and fuel from driving over 50 minutes for nothing, this has been an extremely frustrating experience. I would appreciate it if the property manager contacted me directly to explain what happened, why customers were locked out without notice, and what steps will be taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Customers deserve reliable access to the storage units they are paying for. ... Read more

The new property manager, Bonnie, is incredibly nice. I don’t even have a unit at this facility, but my friend does and she made a point of introducing herself and letting us know she was new and asked if there was anything she could do to help us. My buddy was distracted when she was talking to us and dropped a bag of cement, which broke, and she didn’t hesitate, ran and grabbed a broom and dust pan and insisted on sweeping up the mess, even though I offered to do it. Crazy nice lady 5 stars for sure… ... Read more

Crooks. They advertise a low rate, but after you move in, they jack your prices up after 3 months. I started with my unit being like 120 a month. Now they have me at 220. They will lie and talk about demand. It isn't demand, it is just standard business with them. The only good thing I can say about them is they are pretty forgiving with late payments. You'll pay late fees, but they let you go longer than many other places would. You'd think they would have some loyalty to their long term customers, but they don't. They never even told me about my last rate increase. You can't advertise one rate and charge long time customers higher rates telling them that it is because of demand. This is false advertising. _______ Re: Re: Thank you for responding to my concerns, but I was disappointed that there was acknowledgment of the specific issues I raised. The lack of denial or willingness to discuss these matters leaves me feeling unheard. I didn't even mention other issues. For example, the payment arrangements we agreed upon were not honored, and the only reason it came to that was because of a system error that caused my payment to fail on your end. I paid on your automated over the phone method. It told me payment was accepted and it unlocked my gate code. How was I supposed to know my payment was lost in your system. But after making payment arrangements, because you refused to take my payment because "you're not allowed to take partial payments", you added even more fees to my account. Doesn't that defeat the point of payment arrangements? I'm a loyal customer and value consistency and trust in service providers. I'm willing to pay higher rates if I feel valued and confident in the service I'm receiving, However, the way these issues have been handled makes it hard to justify staying. I hope you'll consider reaching out discuss this further. If there's opportunity resolve this, I'd be happy to talk and work toward a solution. Inver Grove Heights 209 ... Read more

Many people are living here. Garbage is everywhere. The fence is broken, and there are very many unsecured units. They increased my rent by 80 dollars after being there only 2 months and labeled it a periodic rent adjustment. There is no way to contact anyone. They do not respond to emails or on phone calls. there is not an on-site manager. There are mice. If you do rent here, be prepared for immediate rent increase, get an ungodly amount of insurance, and get a 5g alarm and video system ... Read more

This was my first experience renting a storage unit, and I am not impressed with iStorage. I checked their office hours, as well as the posted sign, which said Mon-Fri 10.00AM-6:00PM, but there was no one in-office to help me or answer questions, despite it being 5:15PM, I called their number for support and got their automated voice system contrarily stating that they are closed on Wednesdays. Eventually, despite difficulties, I managed to get into the location with the information given via their online portal, only to find a lock on my intended unit. Finally, I connected to a representative on the phone, and he helped me to get a different unit without a lock, and transferred everything. I inspected the unit to find many ant hills, which is unfortunate, and upon leaving, I found my gate code no longer worked. Would not recommend. ... Read more
