Overall it was an excellent experience. The staff who helped me - Clarence and Marvin - were excellent! The facility and my unit was in great shape. Checking in was fast and easy. The only improvement I can see is the difficulty in parking on the street aside from that it was all good! ... Read more

As a second year NYU student, I was pretty happy that a storage unit was right around the corner from my dorm - I’ll probably be taking a semester abroad, so it made sense to keep my stuff at the 78 Walker location for easy and safe access. Also, I’m a musician and it was important to store my instruments somewhere safe, where they would not take up too much room in my tiny room. My mom made an appointment to check in on Sunday, June 1. The Manhattan Mini Storage website and confirmation email all clearly state that the facility’s hours were 8am to 8pm. Upon arriving at 6pm, there was nobody at the front desk. After waiting, knocking on the front door, and trying to find a different point of entry, we called the phone number listed prominently on all their signage. A woman picked up and confirmed they “should be open” and attempted to connect us to someone to rectify the situation. We called her three times and every single time, the “connection” would ring repeatedly before hanging up. Subsequent calls didn’t work at all; after inputting a one to prompt help in English, the machine would repeatedly say “your answer was not received. Please try again.” It was almost as if they intentionally designed this process to be as aggravating as possible. Whoever left their station to screw us over did position some business cards on the front desk that we could make out a phone number on. We called that number, which connected us to corporate, where some completely hapless guy tried to play middleman between us and the regional manager. His solutions? Either wait until tomorrow, “when they’d be happy to connect,” or move all of our stuff to the closest Manhattan Mini Storage location. Keep in mind this is several guitars, a keyboard, and personal effects - this stuff was not easy to move in the first place - not to mention two Uber XLs that transported it and left us on the sidewalk cost over $70 total. Knowing full well this corporate guy couldn’t help us, we asked to be connected to the aforementioned regional manager, who refused to talk. Again, it’s like they designed this process to be as aggravating as possible. So now we’re sitting on the street that smells like urine, with a mentally ill man yelling nonsense at passersby just a few blocks away, with several bags of stuff, with our only option being to move it back. We ended up hauling most of it back home, with another portion to a dorm room in Brooklyn - so we didn’t just waste almost $150 in transit, now everything is scattered across NYC, we have no storage, and these guys couldn’t even guarantee us a full refund. We understand that emergencies happen but it would have taken maybe ninety seconds for whomever was in charge of the office to call, send an email, or even a text to say they had to close early and apologize for the inconvenience. Instead, all we got was a runaround from a call center that repeatedly transferred us to nowhere, an automated answering machine that simply didn’t work, and some guy who was so obviously and completely out of his element that it was clear that management was just using him as a pain sponge. I’ve never in my life witnessed customer service to be this subpar, and frankly, pathetic. We have referred them to the Better Business Bureau and as an RA, I will be telling many of the residents in my hall to steer clear. The unique mix of incompetence and carelessness is not worth any level of convenience they may afford. Stay away. ADDENDUM: This morning (day after yesterday’s fiasco), they called my mother at 7:50am (unprofessional behavior #529158710) so say “Oh, uh so nobody told you that the hours on weekends are different, we close at six.” Well first off, no - nobody told us that. The hours listed WERE ON THEIR CONFIRMATION EMAIL. No apologies, no offers of compensation for our time, effort, or cab rides, just a complete and utter lack of accountability. Truly a pathetic, pathetic company. ... Read more

One would think it would be easy to run a place like this - if you think about it, they really only need 1-2 staff members at a time. It would take a special kind of incompetence to drop the ball at a storage facility, but that’s exactly what they managed to do at this location. We had an appointment to check in two carloads of stuff here on Sunday, June 1st. My wife got confirmation via email (supported by their website and entire online footprint) that their hours were indeed 8am to 8pm. So imagine our surprise that after arriving at 6pm, there was nobody there. The doors were locked, the office was uninhabited (though the lights were on and the inside door wide open), and loud knocks at the front went unanswered. We looked around for other entrances, waited for anyone to go in or out, but…nothing. After 10-15 minutes, we called the number listed out front and were greeted by an operator that said yes, they are open and yes, someone should be there. She tried to connect us three or four times (I don’t remember because both my wife and I were calling), but every time she “transferred” us, the phone would ring 5-6 times then disconnect. Eventually, the woman stopped picking the phone up and the automated service that picked up did not work. After punching in one for instructions in english, the system would say “we did not receive your answer. Please try again later.” So imagine you’re there, with two carloads of stuff, including several instruments that all together are probably worth over a thousand dollars. Two uber XLs full of cargo are also just sitting there, on the sidewalk, with the sun going down, the street smelling like bodily fluids, and NYC characters half a block away yelling nonsense at nobody in particular. Eventually, we see a business card on the inside with a phone number listed, which connects us to corporate. Whatever poor intern they had working sales tried pitifully to be the middle man, telling us that “there was an emergency, and the regional manager "would be happy to connect TOMORROW." Another option would be to pack it all up and move to another one of our close-by facilities.” Well, no thanks dude, not only did we just drop $80 bucks in cab fares to get here, we spent half the day packing, loading, and moving hundreds of pounds down 13 flights to get here. Now you want us to pack up again and go to another one of your locations that’s probably unstaffed also? No thanks. The lack of apology, remorse, or anything solutions-oriented was abysmal and I personally think you’d have to try hard to project worse customer service. I realize he was just being the middleman between us and the regional manager, who refused to help, but this was infuriating levels of incompetence. After over an hour of sitting on the sidewalk, with all our stuff, getting the runaround from a customer service line that doesn’t work, some sales intern relaying messages to a manager who’s probably off drinking johnny walker blue at The Smith, we pack up our stuff and figure out other places to disperse it - mostly back home, some to a dorm in Brooklyn, which was another $80 in cab fares. No talk of compensation for our effort or time, no effort to compromise or problem solve, just a lack of accountability and a powerless rube relaying messages from a manager who clearly didn’t give a shit that he was completely screwing over customers. I think if I hadn’t seen a prominently placed security camera behind the front desk, I might have thrown a brick through the window. So we moved our stuff again, and 13 hours later at 7:51am, someone on their team had the audacity to call and say “uh…nobody told you that our office hours are different on the weekends, we actually close at six.” Well that’s really helpful (no apology) a day late, at a completely unserious hour, with again no offering of compensation or even an apology. There was no guarantee of a refund on the phone and we have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Take your business elsewhere, they are ABYSMAL. ... Read more

I needed extra storage immediately. I rented a space on the 5th floor. The elevator has been out of service for days. This facility will not reimburse me for the time the elevator is broken. They expect me to carry 50 storage boxes up five flights of stairs. Ridiculous! They cannot tell me when the elevator will be fixed. I’m out. Terrible customer service. DO NOT RENT SPACE HERE. ... Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Manhattan Mini Storage - 78 Walker Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
