We rented a storage unit from Safeway Storage, for a short time in 2023, for our relocation out of state. Before we actually rented the unit, we checked out a few different storage facilities in the near by area. I will not comment on the others, but will say that we chose Safeway to do business with. Now first off, I will say that Safeway is by no means perfect. No place is. We looked at prospective units and sizes to see what might be the best option for us. We did see one locker that we had concerns about possible issues with very small wildlife. Maybe not, but we had concerns and chose another option. The unit we chose was large enough to fit our needs and in between other units, limiting possible issues that I just mentioned. Our locker had a wood strip installed at the door bottom, to help for a tight seal. It also had some anti pest blocks in the corners near the door to help as well. I don't know if Safeway did this, or the previous tenant? But it worked well. Other than a few cob webs and such, our storage unit had no issues of any kind and worked well for us. The door had a pull rope on it to assist you in closing the door. Although ours could be uncooperative sometimes when I would try to tuck it inside the units for the better door seal when closing. I learned how to do it best for myself, and it paid off having no seal issues. And it really wasn't that bad as I made it sound. There was a slide lock on the door, where I used a padlock, to somewhat secure the unit. They do sell locks in the office if you find yourself needing a lock. There is a second lock position on said lock. But that is reserved for Safeway to place folks in timeout, who may not live up to the rental agreement (pay their rent or such). But it is not for folks to use two locks. Safeway also has an office with actual people that you can pull in and speak with (during the posted office hours), whether a prospective or current customer. At the time, I was told there are three employees, who normally are office staff. I have met both of the ladies, and only waved to the gentleman. Both of the ladies were very nice and a pleasure to work with. Even the office was fairly nice and somewhat welcoming. There is fencing and cameras for some amount of security. There is a security gate that one must enter a code to enter or exit. I'm pretty sure there is 24 hour access if needed, but check on that if you feel you may need that. I never went after dark, so I cannot comment on lighting. There was no lights or electric in the storage units I looked at or rented. Access to Safeway itself isn't bad. It's located on a somewhat straightaway on route 208 between Walden and Walkill. So pulling in or out is pretty good with a truck or trailer. There is also decent room on either side of the gate, so that you're not in the road and such. Although it can be a little tight when using the touch pad to open the gate. So keep an eye on your truck or trailer to make sure you don't have issues going through the gate. That was probably the worst thing I can say in our experience using Safeway. I did go into the office and mentioned the bushes in front of the keypad were too close to the front of vehicles. They had it trimmed (I think it was) the next day, or very soon after. Which I liked that they maintained the facility and took my concern seriously. Now comes the part no one really wants to talk about, the price. No it isn't cheap to rent a storage unit. Well I guess that also depends on your idea of cheap. But I found Safeway to be competitive or better priced with their competition. We chose Safeway for a number of reasons. Their facility seemed well kept and clean. It also seemed somewhat secure with people on the property most of the time. They also were the most convenient for us at the time of renting. And their price was as good and probably better than the other places we considered. No Safeway Storage was not perfect. But it fit our needs the best. As such, we used Safeway and have nothing but positives to say about them. ... Read more

Very disappointed!!!! Bird nests & poop on everything, mud wasps from all the holes in unit, mice nests from units bottom having openings that were not sealed, etc. Spent more money on mice traps, cleaning supplies and wasp spray! Save yourself heartache from your belongings being ruined and go elsewhere. Our complaints fell on deaf ears (Tim) and all we received was an “oh well”. A lesson well learned and now housed in an inside, protected and climate controlled unit for a few bucks more. If our things were of no value, we’d not require storing them! ... Read more

I have ket my snowmobile trailer there for 3 years now, during the winter season. (DEc-April). Very clean, GREAT $ VALUE. I had mentioned to them that i can't get my trailer snowed in, becuase i will be picking-up/dropping off constantly through out the season. Everytime, I went to get my trailer after a snowfall, the front was always plowed out, and it was accessable to hook up to with-out any problems! THANK YOU ... Read more

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.
