Extra Space Storage has been great to work with. While seeking the right storage unit, I interacted with employees at both the 5459 Commerce Drive as well as the 6384 S Cottonwood Street locations in Murray. Employees at both locations were super friendly and helpful. I would especially like to thank Chase at the Cottonwood location for going out of his way to clean a greasy/sticky puddle that we discovered when we first opened the newly rented storage unit. ... Great location next to a Trax stop and just a mile from the belt route. The facility is always clean and the staff is friendly. Accountability is their biggest problem. For business use, be wary – I left because of it. Below are 3 problems I faced, and a summary. 1. FAULTY DOOR = ZERO ACCESS. When I tried accessing my climate-controlled building on a weekend to fulfill a $3000 business order, the only accessible door for the whole building wouldn't open. Customer service couldn't help, no other doors could open without a unique key, and they couldn't reach the property manager directly. When I called him the next week, he blamed another customer from the day before I was there for messing up a small thing with the sliding door. He also said I probably could have opened it if I finagled it a bit. (But if I made it worse, I'd owe you money, right?) Plus, he said he'd put signs on doors indicating how to treat the (automatic sliding) doors nicely, which still aren't there weeks later. 2. NO CARTS = TOO BAD. When zero carts were in my storage building for easy transport, he blamed other customers (again). Said they keep them in their own storage unit. (If that's a consistent problem, YOU need to fix it.) I also couldn't access the neighboring building to use the carts in there. This happened to me twice. The other times, there was only one cart available, so if two people need one at the same time... bummer. 3. CUSTOMER BATHROOM LOCK I moved in December 2024. A couple weeks later, the all-hours bathroom wouldn't open. The manager opened it for me, said it was an issue with the lock getting stuck, and that he was waiting on a new lock he ordered. I moved out today (August 2025), and even though I was able to get in this time, it's clearly the same lock, because on my way out I had to make a conscious effort to make sure it didn't remain locked behind me. You said 8 months ago you ordered a new lock, which you actually never did. SUMMARY: My first day was the same day you asked if I could give you a five star review, because you said "reviews make all the difference." I waited to have some experience with your services so I could give an honest review. With the exception of the customer bathroom today that was filthy with no TP and no paper towels, the place is clean and tidy, and I'm sure the outdoor units have fewer problems and a generally good experience. My advice is that you stop blaming customers and instead take accountability for what you can do better. Anyone who's ever worked customer service knows a lot of humans are stupid, which is why it's literally your job to count on their stupidity and create solutions instead of pointing the finger. And even if it is another customer's fault, why am I the one consistently paying the price for it? Also, a dysfunctional bathroom lock isn't the biggest deal in the world, even if it's occasionally annoying for my full bladder – just don't tell me you've started on a solution when you haven't done anything at all. ... I am really impressed with this ES location. The digital access features are incredibly convenient and make getting in and out a breeze. I just have to use Bluetooth on my phone and I’m in. It adds an extra layer of security that makes me feel safe storing my things here. Thomas was super helpful getting me settled in and showing me around. They do a great job of keeping everything clean. The 5x10 climate controlled unit I rented is perfect for what I have, and I feel assured that my belongings are safe. The location is perfect for me as someone that uses UTA to move around. It’s also just a couple of blocks away from freeway access. I have been a "resident" at Extra Space for a while now. Nothing special in terms of customer service; just a convenient location. And, my rate went up considerably from the intro move-in rate. I got a call today from Tanner. Not only did he save me a late fee (because my autopay card had changed); he also went above and beyond to keep me as a customer. Any business that cares about keeping their clientele can use a "Tanner" -- competent, proactive, friendly, resourceful, and willing to help. Thank you so much for a great experience.
