Read some helpful reviews of Go Store It, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I never ever leave reviews, especially not negative reviews but I had to notify people. I am a current UVA student and have used storage units in Cville for years now. I have had generally positive experiences but wanted to try Go Store It as it seemed slightly cheaper than my previous units. I bought the unit end of April and moving in was fine and everything seemed good. About a month after moving in, I received a text message from them saying that my unit did not have a lock. For context, the lock that I have for my unit is the one they provided (which, in hindsight, seems like a bad idea now). I thought it was odd to get this text because I went to the unit almost 5-6 times when I was moving in my stuff because I had a lot of items, and each time that I came to the unit I made sure that it was still locked before I opened it again. I went to the unit several times and always locked it…always, always. As an out of state student, I especially made sure to lock it the last time I went because I knew that if anything were to occur it would be hard for me to fly to Virginia to fix it. I called the unit manager and customer service to settle the issue because I was 100% sure I had locked my unit, like I did th multiple times I went to the unit before I flew home. The manager tried to make it seem like it was my fault and say “many people forget to lock their unit.” After telling him I was out of state and could not replace the lock in person, he stated that I could pay a $50 fee and they would place the lock on for me. After a few weeks of back and forth with him and their customer service, I just decided to bite the cost and pay the fee. When I called the customer service to pay the fee, they told me a different story and said that I would have to come in person to place the lock on even if I paid the fee. After I complained about the lack of consistency in communication, he quickly said that it was alright for me to pay the fee and then proceeded to charge me $20. Although I am not as upset to paying a lesser fee (even though I think it is crazy I had to pay a fee in the first place), I think that the company’s lack of consistency makes it seem like they are making up the rules as they go and come off as very scammy. After that was resolved, I got a letter in the mail last week, that was increasing my rent by $60. Again, I called customer service because now, two months in a row, they are finding ways to up my price, and was met with an incredibly rude and aggressive representative (also, just to mention, a majority of their representatives are extremely rude and disrespectful but this one was worse). He eventually said that he could reduce the price increase a little bit but again it seems like they are just making up the rules as they go which is misleading and very odd. Honestly, I have a few more weeks with them and i am GLAD to be almost done. 0/10 experience. I know it is easier to be fooled by their low prices but they have hidden fees and terrible customer service. DO NOT USE THEM. This is another storage unit that I used for years that I would highly recommend: Storage Sense. Amazing service and much closer to Grounds, even though it might be a bit pricier. I will be going back to them next summer, and I would advise anyone to do the same. ... Read more

everything fine except apparently people keep stealing the push carts from the lobby and i didn’t appreciate the 20% rent increase within months of having signed the initial contract. if that becomes the norm we will have to take our business elsewhere. otherwise the facility is very nice. ... My time with Charlotte went well! She was very kind and helpful! The only thing that I wish that she had told me was the fact that there was a reservation fee attached to my reservation of a small storage unit. I am disabled and live on disability. I have to watch how my money is spent! ... Read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this is for anyone seriously considering the “deals” they offer here. Don’t store here. The facilities themselves are quite nice (variety of units / conditioned on first floor). I have recently gotten a new small unit, just four months ago and received a letter in the mail earlier in January that the cost of rent will be doubling in one week, but I was expecting the same rent for at least one year. The pricing increases are scammy and take advantage of the customer and have no boundaries on how they can increase your monthly rent. I will be moving my things. On top of this, and perhaps worse for the price to “Securely store your things” I visited today and one of the sliding sets of entry (coded) doors were seemingly bashed in and broken, open. I called the number listed here on Google for this location and without an answer… continued to dial several times until it redirected me to another call center. I reported the situation and the person who answered told me that the manager of this location was off for holiday today and there was nothing anyone could do. I asked if I should call the police. (I’m sure others were fearing entering and clearly there had been vandalism)… They said “no” and they would “just take care of it tomorrow.” So, since 3 pm today through the night the place is just completely open to the public. I asked to have a manager call me. We shall see if they do. It seemed the carts were stolen. Sketchy management and unsafe/ unprotected. Otherwise units themselves are nice. Don’t recommend. ... The automatic doors that require a code to get in are constantly broken so anyone can get in night or day half the time. I met another person there who had everything they owned stolen when the doors were broken. And they’re still broken half the time im there. The elevator is broken too literally half the time! I push a button and it wont go to the floor im on so i have had to carry everything up 3 flights of stairs multiple times and the higher ups refuse to comp that. The lease states they can change the price every month to whatever they want. Something they really try to hide because i had my locker go from $75 dollars a month i had been paying for 5 months to $275 DOLLARS IN A SINGLE MONTH!!!!! My last storage locker only changed the monthly rent by the year and never had an issue for the whole 2 years i was there. So these guys are an outlier for scummy policies and neglecting basic maintenance. These are scummy business owners!! DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

This place is horrible (the worst) in terms of customer service. You never get to talk to a human.. I am trying to give them notice, per the lease, that I am moving out. I have called them five times and all I get is their virtual assistant who states that she will pass the message on. You never ever get a phone call back. Today I drove to the storage unit and talked to the virtual assistant there… Finally got a human. She said I just sent you the link for the move out form with instructions. Once again, I never got it. This place is the worst, worst customer service I have ever seen. You cannot get out of your lease, even with the appropriate notice. Besides repeatedly calling them I also emailed them with no response. Meanwhile, the days are accumulating. They are nothing but disaster. I highly recommend that you do not deal with them. ... Absolutely the worst customer service and management I have ever experienced. Whatever you do do not expect any one to answer the phone. If you like getting no answers online and like talking to computers this is your place. There is no assistance whatsoever. The elevators are always broken. The doors are always broken. There are seedy people hanging out around the building. The slope of the parking lots makes load in challenging. The carts suck when and if you can find one. Stay far away. Rent from someone local. Corporate overlord alert. ... Read more

Very nice storage unit co. Conveniently located, was issued a 10x16 unit on the second floor, elevator right near front door. Roomy parking lot, worked well for me. Didn’t care for the quick price increase , but only had the unit for four months. And the original price was very reasonable anyway! Being temperature controlled was an added plus too ! Would recommend and would use again if needed . ... Read more

This is an update to my original post and response to Go Store It's comments. Thank you for your response and for having Duvet (hope I have spelled her name correctly) contact me regarding this issue. I do appreciate the time and the excellent customer service she provided. Please know that the storage unit itself is excellent and I have had no issues since renting there. I have increased the rating from 1 to 4 after having spoken with Duvet. I believe she listened completely to my story and frustration and showed compassion. I hope that hearing me will result in this not happening to other customers, as mentioned so they don't feel blindsided. Thank you for your time and understanding Go Store It. Original post - I am disappointed to report that Go Store It increased my rates by 40% in just 3 months. I see where they have responded to others who have reported similar increases, stating that market rates have caused this. I have a hard time believing that the market for storage has increased by 40% in just 3 months. I have been an extremely good customer in good standing with this company and this increase is truly out of nowhere. When I first decided to rent with Go Store It, I spoke to a representative about the rates asking if those would change and she stated that it would be better to take the facility rate rather than the promo online rate, stating those were less likely to increase, however I guess that was not the case. It is odd that I received a call a week or so ago asking if I was interested in another unit. I stated that I was not in need of another unit at this time. That same night I received a notice that my monthly storage rental fee would be increased by 40%. Unfortunately I am not at all able to move my items out of this facility. I am hopeful that I will receive a response to this review and that management for this company will reconsider this increase as I believe most reasonable folks would know that an increase this steep is really uncalled for and just inappropriate. ... One elevator has been broken since I started my lease 6 months ago. Today, I went to my unit to move two pieces of furniture and found the other elevator broken. 2/2 elevators broken, no onsite staff I've ever seen, and the stairwells are filthy. I'm planning on canceling my lease ASAP. Additionally, when I signed up they accidentally canceled my account and then renewed my lease at higher rate. Shady. ... Read more

Though the parking and loading zone are sizeable, I don't recommend this facility. I rented a unit here for about 4 months, and there was no instance in which both doors and both elevators were working. The door near the office (as it were) never worked. Until a few weeks ago, the door further from the office wouldn't open unless you manually pulled it. The elevator further from the office worked okay until the Floor 3 button stopped responding (guess what floor my unit was on). That got fixed after a few weeks, but then the elevator near the office stopped working. I notified customer support of these problems; they were friendly but clearly limited in their capacity to solve these kinds of problems. Basically, the poor maintenance of this facility (and the shockingly small elevators) probably tripled the amount of time I spent moving in and out of the facility. I haven't used any other storage facilities in Charlottesville, but I'd recommend keeping these remarks in mind and doing serious research before selecting this one. ... Read more

So very easy to work with! My daughter is at UVA and they were flexible with dates, honored the on line price and very easy to work with! Some things to know before booking, need a lock or they offer and you can go through homeowners or their price for insurance is $15 a month, staff is very friendly easy to work with, all documents signed electronically. Used them for the summer and all was great for move out! I highly recommend! ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
