Davey H. - 26 May 2022
After renting here for 3 months it was easier to pack up all my things and move to a different storage company. When attending to my storage unit for about 20min 3 or 5 days a week to minimize and organize my belongings I was constantly harassed by the man working on staff there. He is creepy and rude to say the least. I spoke with the owner about him and though he was kinder, he was general dismissive. Things are perfect now at my new storage unit. Friendly staff, well lit inside and outside, clean, and better priced! I’m happy to give my money elsewhere to a place where I feel safe. ------------ UPDATE AND REPLY TO OWNER RESPONSE 5/15/2022 -------- This is classic "your word against mine" - To say that I broke a Virginia code for storage facilities is an utter false accusation. This company's response is an outright lie. Not once did I ever sit, lay down, or sleep in this unit. My unit was located right by the entrance and I did not feel comfortable having my things on full display for passerby's, this is why I would pull the door down while I organized to bring things to the Salvation Army. After I waited an hour to speak to the owner one morning, he apologized for how the front desk staff man behaved and told me not to pull the door all the way down for safety reasons (claiming some random person would come by and put a lock on my unit, while I was in there moving and filling boxes) - I did comply and didn't pull the door down again but instead I started to work on moving my things elsewhere. The owner did not talk to me about laying down or sleeping in the unit because it NEVER HAPPENED. To point back to my initial complaint against this facility; I did not feel personally safe while at my unit or that my belongings were safe. I paid to have my items stored there and I used the unit according to the standards. I packed up all of my things and left on my own occurred because of the way they did business. On two accessions, the front desk man, who I have had all the issues with, thought that I was someone else - I hope to God he was not again confusing me with another person and therefor making these baseless statements. Regardless, this business' lack of integrity is clear and I am glad I moved on. If you are a women and especially a women of color I would advise you use another company for your storage needs. ... These guys are fantastic. The units are very nice, well kept, and very spacious. (Very tall and I think both of mine were slightly larger than claimed) They've always been very polite, helpful, curtious and super friendly to me and everyone else I've heard from. I shopped around and I think they have the best prices too. They are even pretty flexible about late payments. I think they went out of their way to avoid hurting my credit when I didn't have the money on time, but it helps alot to call them and let them know anything like that ahead of time. Anytime I've had a question or problem all I've had to do is call they guys and they solve it right away. And so far, every problem I have had has been my fault. The registration process was fast, easy, and as painless as possible. They even have a friendly little dog to hold down the office and keep us entertained. (As a local, I can tell you that most of the students actually are pretty clueless and waste alot of everyones time. It sounds to me like they were still as nice as possible to that lady, and answered all her questions.) 5 stars, but only because I can't give them 6. PS, ignore all the junk in the photo. It wasn't there when I arrived. They had cleaned, swept, and even gave me some free plastic to put down over the concrete floor. ... Read more

So I called this place to get pricing and availability on storage units and the person who answered was unnecessarily rude. I was simply asking what the price on a specific size unit would be and before I could finish my sentence he interrupted and rattled off pricing for current availability. When he finished I clarified and said that I was looking for June, to which he began to laugh and said “yeah, you and every student in this town! You won’t find anything that time of year!”. He may as well have just said ‘Don’t you know anything!?’ Rude. Don’t bother with these guys. Unprofessional. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Woolen Mills Self Storage - 131 Franklin Street has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Gate, Parking, Enclosed and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The storage units offered by Woolen Mills Self Storage - 131 Franklin Street can satisfy all of your storage needs. Different sizes here range from 25 to 300 square feet. You can go for smaller units if you don't have a lot of items to store, while choosing a larger space is recommended in case you need to store a lot of furniture, bigger items or even vehicles.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

Storage units offered by Woolen Mills Self Storage - 131 Franklin Street come at a variety of prices, starting from $80 per month for typically smaller units. However, larger spaces can set you back up to $375 a month.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
