This is an update to my original review For anybody looking for Storage in Sonoma I suggest you look very carefully if you're going to put your items in the storage facility It was acquired by prime Storage. I would say approximately 18 months ago now and what they did initially was have super low rates to entice people to come in. For anybody who uses Storage you know that that is usually a teaser rate and they will continue to raise your rates the longer you are there, almost like the more comfortable you are the more they're interested in getting a higher increase. What they don't realize is that many people in town talk to each other and that a lot of us have had discussions about the fact that prime Storage is the kings of increasing rates to extraordinary rates without telling you. You're on an auto bill system and they will claim that they did share this with you, but in reality, they're just increasing rates without prior notice. I urge you to look at other storage facilities in Sonoma if you are choosing a facility. There are other ones that do not increase rates as dramatically as they do, they are slightly older facilities, but many of them have new roofs and have been maintained nicely. The people that work there are extremely nice, I'm referring to prime Storage. It's the corporation that thinks that they can outsmart the people in town, but don't realize that we are just as smart as they are. I Had to storage units there. One was a Wine Locker and one was a storage room. I now have moved both of mine out of the facility because of these business practices. If this just prevents one person from making this mistake I hope that you find something that is not as bait and switch as this place is. ... Read more

Although very frustrated with the rate increases and insurance headaches with Prime Storage in general, I am writing a good review due to the excellent service I have received from the manager Clinton. I received a call from Clinton letting me know that while doing his rounds he noticed I hadn't locked my door properly. It wasn't obvious, as in the door was open, it was just that I locked it without properly securing the latch. I was SO relieved that Clinton had noticed this and got in touch with me straight away. As luck would have it, I got the call while boarding a plane and had to have my son drive an hour and a half to lock it properly. Clinton assured me that he would make sure my locker was safe until my son arrived. When my son arrived Clinton made sure to accompany him to the unit and to help make sure everything was ok. I also want to mention that every time I am at the facility, Clinton is cleaning the compound which is evident in the maintaining of the grounds. THANK YOU Clinton! It is a great comfort having you looking out for everyone. ... Read more

I give poor marks based upon my corporate (800#) telephone conversation with corporate. While I admire the cordial and understanding managers at the Sonoma storage site, my original corporate telephone conversation was both frustrating and irritating. Up charging attempts again and again were made by the corporate agent. Her primary job was obviously to wring as much monthly money as possible from this prospective client. Shame! Shame! on corporate management responsible for this maddening, irresponsible and unwelcoming introduction. ... Read more

One of the best storage experiences I’ve had. The place is spotless and air conditioned. The units are easy to get to, and their rates are no higher than other inferior facilities in town. While renting at another place (wish I hadn’t), the rent was jacked up every few months; not at Prime. The rate I signed for was what I paid for the whole tear and a half. I have only good things to say about Prime Storage and the management. ... Read more

Hands down the best storage facility in Sonoma. Joey at the front desk is great. He has helped me sign up for 4 storage spaces over the past year. Love working with him. Loyal customer here. Be advised, this facility is leaking a lot at the moment, during the winter rains. There are some discounted 5x5's and it's an otherwise clean, new, safe facility facility with decent customer service. But be wary before you put water-sensitive belongings in here. This has been going on since November, and the only thing I've seen them do is put buckets out to collect the rain water. ... Read more

After experiencing the death of a loved one, the thought of moving their personal items out of storage was a nightmare. The warmth, compassion, and empathy that we received from Joey was overwhelming and incredibly authentic. He really made what could have been a dreadful experience, a wonderful transition for the entire family. We are very thankful for Joey’s professionalism, commitment, and kindness for the couple months we were able to work with him. If I ever personally need a storage unit in the future, I will be sure to use Prime storage… as long as Joey is still working there! Thank you so much. ... Read more

I can’t recommend this self-storage company enough! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and well-maintained the facility is. They have excellent security measures in place, and I always feel at ease knowing my items are protected. What really sets them apart, though, is the incredible customer service. Joey is friendly, professional, and always willing to go the extra mile to make the process smooth and stress-free. ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

Climate-controlled storage units maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, helping protect items from damage caused by heat, cold, or excess moisture.

You may want climate control if you’re storing items that can be sensitive to temperature changes, such as furniture, clothing, appliances, paperwork, photographs, artwork, electronics, or wood and leather goods. These units are especially useful for long-term storage or in areas with hot summers, cold winters, or high humidity.

If you’re storing durable items like tools or outdoor gear, a standard unit may be sufficient. When in doubt, climate control offers added protection and peace of mind.
