Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage at 854 Widgeon Road, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Things I liked: 1.was convenient to enter the code thru phone or on keypad at the gate 2.Excellent hours of operation for the storage unit 3.Well lit storage lot 4. I didnt have to drive back 20 Minutes to the lot to cancel my rent, they already did! 5. Storage unit at the time of purchase had a decent price. Things I didn’t like: 1. Rent increases quite often like every other month, for me at first I paid $54 and I rented it for like a year and 2 months and once I paid my final bill it went up to $100. 2. One time I thought I had lost my keys and I had called them to pay for another one, it seemed like a mess. In order for me to get new keys, I had to wait 2 weeks for someone to come out of town with a lock breaker to break my lock and I had to pay I think like $30 bucks for them to do all of that, thank God I found my keys. 3. Of the rent is increasing so rapid like that, they could have at least made the walls inside the storage unit metal or something hard because the card board cuts so easily, I could see another persons belongings sticking thru mine. 4. Probably the worst one of all. I had came in one month and I seen rat poop everywhere. Once u moved my stuff out, they got in almost all of my stuff, even stuff that I had in boxes, now granted some of this is my fault bc I put some food in there in cardboard boxes but I noticed that they had damaged stuff that didn’t even have food it in it, they got all in my bags, blender, clothes. I’ve looks at other reviews and I guess I’m not the only person that had this happened, it’s not normal. They really need to do something about that. I had to throw away a lot of stuff and wash almost everything that was in there. I’m not looking for any refunds but I hope that they resolve that issue. The storage units are not fully secure if big rats can get in. I recommend if you are going to put your stuff in their storage units, please use tubberware ware or anything hard. Do not put your stuff in boxes or trash bags otherwise you’ll be in for a disaster. Or I would just recommend going to an indoor storage facility. ... Read more

When I moved out, there were black and tan bugs all over my stuff. There were bugs in my storage unit which I paid extra to be in a building, in a climate controlled space where outdoor things wouldn’t get in. There were bugs all over the place as soon as you walk in the building that holds the storage unit, all over the door and walkway as well. I am extremely disappointed and disgusted that bugs were not only all over the place, but all over my belongings as I had been in the unit less than a month! I do not recommend this location at all!! The lady behind the counter wasn’t very nice or receptive, and mentioned to another guest that I might be a “secret shopper”. ... Read more

I recently rented a unit at the Public Storage located at 854 Widgeon Rd, Norfolk, VA. I was disappointed with the overall condition of the facility. The place was noticeably dirty and had a strong mildew smell as soon as I walked in. I specifically requested an indoor climate-controlled space, similar to what I previously used in Goose Creek, SC, but the temperature inside this facility felt closer to 80 degrees. It didn’t feel properly climate-controlled. The insulation also appeared worn down and not in the best shape, which doesn’t give me much confidence in long-term storage here. It’s functional for short-term needs, but if you’re looking for clean, well-maintained, and truly climate-controlled storage, you may want to look elsewhere. ... Read more

Gladys was absolutely amazing! She helped me find the best deal on a storage unit and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. She was friendly, professional, and truly went the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of. It’s not easy to find someone who genuinely cares about helping others, but Gladys is that person. I’m so grateful for her support — if you need a storage unit, I highly recommend asking for Gladys! ... Read more

am not sure why people and AI overview on Google has mixed reviews. This place is past rentable. If your storage is outside than you might not have problems. But if you are in the inside you are at a grand loss. I rented 11/9/24 had to go back home to Dallas, was only gone to weeks, upon my return lost all my clothes was in unit H56 I thought it was a racoon. But dead rats in my clothes which where in bags on hangers, they where dead the smell so bad, maggots everywhere Gladys the manager was cleaning it up and could barely stand it. I got the city involved and it has been ongoing. They get good reviews to mask and bury the bad and truthful ones. They sweep up the rat poop so tenants and rental prospects will not know. I found out this has been an ongoing problem since 2019. The insurance will mot cover it. The city of norfolk is still doing their due diligence to make them rectify this infestation and it is. Renting from this place is loosing everything you own even if it's for two week. Gladys is untrustworthy. A smile of deceit. And corporate hides behind unsupported regulations on storages ivhad conversation s with them and they actually brag about it. Hardworking people loosing their valuables. Disgusting and despicable what these people are doing. ... Read more

First time renting a storage unit & NEVER AGAIN will i go to public storage. I had my storage unit from March to August & when i came back, mice went through my things. Boxes were torn through, mice poop literally EVERYWHERE. They bit through my couch and a seat apart of my balcony set. I understand things happen but the insurance that you are forced to get through public storage covered NOTHING. The lack of consideration regarding this issue tells me all i need to know about this company but it’s a lesson learned. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide array of amenities available for the storage units that Public Storage - 854 Widgeon Road has to offer. These amenities include Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Unstaffed Location, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Most of these amenities can prove to be very useful depending on what you need to store. For example, climate-controlled units can come in handy for keeping sensitive items, drive-up access can make your loading and unloading process easier, and extra security measures will ensure your items are kept safe at all times.

The storage units offered by Public Storage - 854 Widgeon Road can satisfy all of your storage needs. Different sizes here range from 50 to 450 square feet. You can go for smaller units if you don't have a lot of items to store, while choosing a larger space is recommended in case you need to store a lot of furniture, bigger items or even vehicles.

The unit size that you should choose obviously depends on how much stuff you need to store. On the one hand, you should think of smaller units (5'x5' or 5'x10') as closets – they can be used to store chairs, lamps, moving boxes and sports equipment, along with smaller pieces of furniture, books and documents.

On the other hand, the 10'x10' and 10'x15' spaces are good for storing larger items of furniture, bicycles and a larger number of possessions. If you need even more space, then 10'x20' and 10'x30' units can easily accommodate the contents of an entire 3- or 4-bedroom house.

Storage units offered by Public Storage - 854 Widgeon Road come at a variety of prices, starting from $69 per month for typically smaller units. However, larger spaces can set you back up to $410 a month.

We know that when it comes to self storage, there is nothing more important than quickness and accessibility. Drive-up access is an extremely convenient amenity, as you can park your vehicle right next to your unit, making it significantly easier to load and unload the items you will use storage for. However, drive-up storage units tend to be outdoors, so you might consider indoor storage spaces with climate control if you're looking to keep temperature-sensitive items in peak condition.

Yes, you might, depending on what you need to put in storage. Climate-controlled spaces keep temperatures and humidity levels consistent all the time, which means they are perfect for storing sensitive items. Seeing that a whole host of things can be damaged by varying temperatures and excessive moisture, many people choose to rent climate-controlled units for personal items such as documents, photographs, paintings, collectibles, electronics, wooden furniture, antiques and even vehicles. If you're looking to store such items that are valuable to you, consider renting a climate-controlled unit!
