I post this review in hopes of improvements… had a number of issues recently. My lock was cut based on an email sent out a month before scheduled maintenance. A call would have been nice. They destroyed a nice lock and replaced it with a basic standard. I couldn’t access my unit for a whole week bc of mix ups and staff changes. Photo is current state of affairs right in front of my unit. Major dumpster and flooding problem. The rent increases at PS after 3-4 months FYI Lots of room for improvements at the company and I hope it improves bc they have many convenient locations which is right now one of the main positives. ???? ... Will most know that I hate Public Storage totally hate it because after I paid for insurance I was robbed and I didn't get a penny back of my possessions and I was treated like crap but not at this store Aiden was a doll it took a little bit to pay for the storage I bought because of the confusion but he had us laughing all the time and so it didn't feel so bad the young lady that came to help him was extremely nice too but there is no golf cart to take you around or any carts or anything so make sure you like to walk have a great one Aiden enjoyed meeting you ... Do not rent a storage space from them. I have only been here for maybe 2 1/2 weeks and my unit has been broken into twice. I have empty boxes and a push cart in the unit so they could not take anything. The management did not care what happened. The guy at the desk told me to just file a police report when I showed him the pictures of the broken wall that was pulled open from the unit behind mine. He did not even wanted to get out of his seat. The first time the unit was broken into was when someone had cut h the lock and put it inside the unit so that no one finds out that it was cut. I called the office and they said that it was cut by mistake. Even if it was cut by mistake they should have called me or emailed me about it instead of just leaving my locker open. I had to go and get another lock to put on the door. Just to shut me up they put a $25 credit on my account. They force you to get the lock from them plus they have turned on the 24/7 access that I can not turn off. They are charging me $20 extra for that. I have told them that I do not want access for 24/7 they say that it stop and not bill you for next month. But I am out of $20 this month. I have left VM for the property manager and the District Manager many times but not even one call came back. Shame on you Public Storage. ... Read more

I went into the facility frustrated I can admit I did not have a great attitude It was as if everything was going wrong that day. Darnell was so positive and helpful I was actually smiling when I left. His customer service and patience was just what I needed Thank you! I've rented a unit at the Public Storage on Santiago since 2020. I've received great service from Jessica, the property manager, and Justin. (return calls quickly, set appts so you know you're not going to have to wait, etc) Additionally, it's obvious from my interactions with Jessica that she genuinely cares about her customers. RAT INFESTATION Written in points to make sure it is as clear as possible. 1. We rented 5x10 storage unit at 4202 Santiago st, Austin, TX, 78745, with move-in 27th October 2024. Storage unit Number 556. 2. On 28th January 2025,went to retrieve our items from public storage. 3. We can Confidently say that on 28th January 2025 evening our worst nightmare came true. The view was so graphic any articulation is redundant. Detailed photos and videos give you an idea! 4. I don't think we had ever experienced how a rat pee would smell like, that got checked off!! 5. Rat poop, Pee, and whisker was all over the place. The whole scene brought us down to our knees. We can not unsee what we saw! It has left an immovable scare on our minds! 6. All our bags and carton boxes were literally drenched in black rat poop and pee. 7. The harrowing nightmare continued when we started emptying the storage. 8. We had clothes, shoes, electronic items and appliances, utensils, books, porcelain wear, and an ergonomic chair. 9. There were many items of high emotional value, a. Clothes which we wore on our first date. - chewed to the T and devoured by Rats b. Our marriage suite and dresses - Nothing to salvage. c. Porcelain Gifts - covered in rat poop and discolored with rat pee!! d. Customized Photographs :( ' - Many of them are only memory now. e. Favorite cups and cast ironware - All drenched in rat pee. We can not imagine using them ever again. Or cooking in them. f. Hand knitted and handmade bamboo bowl and basket chewed off! g. The cushions of the chair were drenched and reeked of rat pee! 10. When we came to the back end of the storage unit intensity and the foul odor became unbearable. That moment we found our FIRST Nemesis. First live rat! It got scared and ran outside the storage unit. 11. When we emptied the unit and about to close, we saw the SECOND rat maybe a partner which came through the metal sheet separating the storage units. Storage units are not concrete and separated by metal sheet. 12. I can not imagine how many more rats are in other units. This is a serious health hazard. Many folks would keep extra or spare toys akids' clothes. Imagine a rat infestation in the facility. The same items are used by the children when taken back to the homes. 13. We are paying to store our goods in a clean, dry, secure space. This is the only service they are providing. Even if this service is not delivered to the bare minimum standards, then it is better they close the facility. 14. Rats carry a variety of diseases and can cause damage to personal property. This would deem the space as neither clean nor secure. 15. After emptying the storage, we went and talked to the store manager. THE VERY FIRST THING I HEARD WAS "DO YOU HAVE INSURANE". 16. This lapse on public storage is beyond insurance. I am more concerned about health hazards andiseases such ininfestation spread. On top of this, there is so much emotional value attached to things that can not be covered by NO INSURANCE in the world. 17. As the store manager brought up the insurance, I have quoted below from "The orange door" Insurance. a. Orange Door Insurance offered by Public Storage: "Vermin: We will pay up to $250 to cover damage by vermin to insured property while in the enclosed storage space.” 18. Other home insurance, which claims to cover storage facility - typically do not cover damage caused by rats or rodents because infestation is seen as preventable. 19. FYI, the total worth of our items, which was stored,is approximately 9700 USD! 20. Today, on 1st of February, we have been trying to salvage whatever we can. We have lost track of the amount of sanitizer bottles, anti-bacterial wipes, masks, and gloves used to clean whatever we can retrieve. 21. We threw many things in a secure disposal place which cost us extra. If such infested items are exposed, it will lead to other serious conditions attracting other rodents and could trigger a whole new chain reaction. Our experience with Public Storage will be in our memory for a long time for all the bad reasons and will haunt us!!! ... Read more

    Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.
