When I bought my boat I underestimated how difficult it would be to find storage. After much searching I came upon the James River Marina. I could not have asked for a better experience. They are top class professionals and they treat their customers like family. I am blessed to have found the perfect spot to keep my boat. ... Read more

Marty, Brad, and crew hauled my boat, cleaned/painted the bottom and boot stripe, polished the topsides, and did some minor out-of-the-water maintenance in August of 2020. They are nice people, great to work with, did a thorough and excellent job, kept in touch throughout, gave fair estimates of time and cost, and did it all during a horrible heat wave while I sat in an air-conditioned office. I will go back for my next service. ... Read more

My family has used this marina since we moved to Virginia, and bought our first sail boat. I just bought my first boat and launched it from this marina. About two hours later, we come back in and the power trim motor and pump randomly stop working. Luckily, Marty (The owner of this marina), and a few of his employees were around the area we came in. We asked if he knew what we could do, and after my brother, me, and him and his workers tried taking the release out to get the motor up, we gave up and he had his employees pull my boat out with their boat lift, and placed it on my trailer. Marty then proceeded to try and help us out for about an hour in the hot sun, and it seemed like we weren’t gonna be able to leave because the motor was scraping on the gravel. I asked how much it would be to leave it over night, and he offered to let us leave it there for free. Not only was the over night free, the help from him and his employees was free and they did not expect money for what they did. This is why I will always come back to this marina. The owner has always been a great guy, always willing to help people out when they need it. ... Read more

Honest and hard working guys. Good doing business with the owner. Needed a fuel tank and had one in stock and even save us a bit of cash. Being that it was the start of the season he did not take us for a ride. I will come back again for sure. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

The right storage unit size depends on what you plan to store and how much space you need to move around your items.

5x5 or 5x10 units are great for smaller loads, such as chairs, lamps, small furniture pieces, boxes, books, and documents.

10x10 or 10x15 units work well for larger furniture, bicycles, appliances, and the contents of a small apartment.

10x20 or 10x30 units can typically fit the contents of a three-bedroom home, including large furniture and multiple appliances.

If you’re unsure which size is best, a unit size calculator can help estimate the right fit based on the items you’re planning to store – helping you avoid paying for more space than you need.

To open your storage unit door, start by unlocking it, whether it uses a traditional padlock or a Bluetooth-enabled smart lock. Once unlocked, grab the bottom handle and lift or pull up the roll-up door until it’s fully open.

If you’re using the unit for the first time, make sure the lock is properly removed before opening the door to avoid damage.

Security helps protect your belongings while they’re in storage and gives you peace of mind between visits. Many self storage facilities use a combination of features such as video surveillance, gated access, on-site management, and well-lit premises to help deter unauthorized access.
